Police find body on fire in west Houston
Houston Chronicle ^ | June 10, 2003

An unidentified man was shot to death before his body was set on fire in west Houston early today, police said.

A Houston police officer on patrol noticed a fire at 3:53 a.m. on the side of the road in the 5900 block of Katy Road near Maxroy. The officer then found the charred remains of a man who had been shot numerous times.

The killer apparently set the man on fire.

The victim is described as Hispanic, in his 20s, about 5'5" to 5'7" tall, about 140 to 160 pounds, with a mustache and short, straight black hair. He was wearing a white Fruit of the Loom tank top, Guess jeans, a brown Nautica woven strand belt and Reebok underwear, Houston homicide investigators said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

I'm surprised. This sort of thing happens on the North side of most cities.

It doesn't have anything to do with this article, but I was wondering the other day about someone that used to post here from Houston, IIRC.

Chief Negotiator, I think was his screen name.

Lived in Houston, had a house fire and died. I never heard anything about the cause, etc. It was always under investigation...

The case remains under investigation, although I don't think much investigating is going on by the authorities.

Ok.

It’s just one of those things I think of from time to time.

I think it was the south side of San Antonio last night. There was also a burned body, of a short man, found on the west side of lake Corpus Christi last week! Could it be a serial killer?

This is kind of weird, having watched the Stuntman Awards last night. I bet it's a gang signature.

This is off topic but does anyone know about a Dallas Police/FBI action on Martin Luther King Blvd in Dallas today. I drove by about 9:00 this morning and police and FBI were everywhere. Had several people handcuffed outside the Maynard Clinic.

I am afraid that it isn't apprpriate for a Mexican ciizen whle in the US to spontaneously combust without first notifying the local Mexican consulate officer. Sorry. That's la ley.

Whoever did this last night in Houston was pretty bold. This is not some isolated, quiet area. This was in plain sight in a very busy part of the city, even at that time of night.

It's adjacent to Interstate 10 in a fairly nice part of the city. I'm not aware of significant gang activity there, although I'm not positive.

Possibly this was a serial killer, but my hunch is that this was some sort of revenge killing. Whoever did this would have been happy to kill this person several times if he could.

Sorry I can't see the humor in this one at all like many posters here do. I knew a fellow who had this very thing happen to him. Different city, different state.

Uncool.
