On the 12th floor of the Elks Temple building in downtown Sacramento, in a three-room suite of dingy offices with a view of the Capitol dome, about a dozen young Republican operatives, most from UC Davis, are opening mail all day long and into the night.

I see the Republicans are truly eager to be the ones driving the train when it finally crashes. I guess that's just one more way the Republicans can help the Democrats. A novel way, to be sure, but there's nothing good they can accomplish by taking charge now.

The show will be entertaining, though.

If the Dems figure the recall people are going to get enough signatures to recall Davis I guarentee you the Dems will jump in with both feet. There will be no shortage of Dem candidates. The GOP has to worry abought getting a Republican elected. It is going to be an interesting summer.

The recall is going to qualify, barring some unexpected technical glitch or court ruling from out of the blue.

10 to 1 the courts find great fault somewhere!

"Either way, though, the governor is in big trouble."

His trouble is not nearly so big, as the debt repayments he (and his fellow democrat legislators) are leaving the tazpayers with.

An article today opines that Enron accountants are now hot at work, cooking the state's books.

To them, spending becomes savings, higher taxes become savings, higher spending becomes budget cuts. Their world is upside down.

In an earlier career, I was involved with exploring the finer points of accounting presentations (all legal) and I recognize that these flimflam artists can totally confuse the average voter.

That is the Davis way.

While the Dims will try to spin it that way, it's like blaming Red Adair for the oil well fires in Kuwait in Gulf War I...He didn't light them off, he went in to clean them up.

Perception is reality in this case. It's how Clinton got elected, and how he managed to shift blame for the impeachment onto Ken Starr and the Republicans, and it's how Willy Brown or Bustamonte will run for Governor in 2006.

Remember, the Republicans have demonstrated a remarkable ability to live without a spine. I don't think they're ready to grow bones yet.

Yada, yada, yada. California is a beautiful state that gave us Ronald Reagan before it begin to sink into the leftist swamp. Urging people to get out is not the solution. Kudos to all those who stand and fight. There is not enough room in the Idaho panhandle to accomodate all freepers. If California takes out this trash, it could inspire others to do likewise.

This is the first lamestream media story (if the Sac-Bee) qualifies as "mainstream," to report that the Davis recall is probably going to succeed in gathering the required number of signatures. That makes the history of the other 31 attempts to recall Governors absolutely irrelevant. None of them ever became real, ever qualified for the ballot.

The interesting thing will be to see which Democrats sell-out Davis and sign up as candidates themselves to replace him, rather than sticking to the party line that the recall can and should be defeated. God, I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.

When (not if) the recall qualifies for the ballot, we must remove Davis. If we fail to remove him, California will owe him $1Billion or whatever he spends on saving his seat.

It will cost CA much more to keep Davis than to dump him, and hopefully we'll get a replacement who will responsibly wield the line-item-veto pen. The right governor can stop this train wreck.

I don't know much about Darryl Issa's ideas, but Tom McClintock would be the perfect replacement. Hopefully Issa is nearly as scrupulous and logical, since he's much more likely to be the candidate than McClintock if the GOP has only one candidate.
