Pending calls for special sessions by Governor Perry, the 78th session of the Texas Legislature became history on Monday, 2 June 2003. Several issues were left on the table including school funding via Robin Hood, property tax relief, tort reform, and congressional redistricting.
Since the democrats lost control of the Texas House in 2002, they were not interested seeing the legislature address congressional redistricting, since they would not control the process. Note that the maps drawn in 2001 by a judge was meant as temporary. The trip by 51 of the Texas democrats to Ardmore, Oklahoma prevented a quorum, which killed the issues referenced above due to legislative session time constraints.
The Harris County Democrat Party sponsored a "welcome home rally" earlier today in Houston. Members of the H.A.T. FR Chapter intended a different kind of welcome. Stevie_d_64 handled most of the arrangements, including contacting the HPD to notify them of our intentions. Best sign goes to Ron H. for his tombstone sign indicating end of democrat control of the Texas Legislature. DrewsDad had a sign indicating end of democracy, and PetroniDE had a sign with a single word message: "Chicken". Other attendees were CPT Clay, Eaker, Joyce, and one un-named lurker.
The freepers were positioned such that those attending the rally needed to drive past us. The dominant signal by the attendees was "the finger". One attendee called us another insult (four letter word that begins with "N" and think European country from the 1930's). It was noticed that about 20 of the cars had expired emission and/or state registration tags (so much for the environment and following laws). Some commuters driving by showed support with horn honking.
Media presence included interviews with an AP reporter, a reporter from KPFT radio, and a local 24 hour cable news channel. Ron H, DrewsDad, and PetroniDE gave statements. Stevie_d_64 did an interview with channel 13(ABC). Other video footage was taken by channels 26(Fox) and 39(WB). Photographers for the event included Ron H. and Stevie_d_64.
Flyer: You may want to re-ping. My list is out dated.
Eaker gave an interview to the media too. Makes ya go hmmmmm....
I'm stumped.
Then again, I'm a little "under the weather," so my brain isn't on full-charge.
I'll be watching the news for all of you tonight!! Way2Go!
Any pics coming?
I didn't see that. Must have been after I left. Say anything good?
third letter Z. Other two letters are vowels (A and I). Even gave us "the salute".
Laying off the catnip now...
How 'bout this guy?
Got him off the My Cat Hates You page.
Shortly my dear. I just got in about 15 mins ago and just put them on my local HD. Still need to upload them to one of my storage servers and then link them.
I must say that it sure was fun "raining" on these people parade. These Dims sure have their hand signs down pretty pat, the fickle finger of fate must be their favorite of all of them (or they were trying to impress us with their IQ level perhaps).
Yeah, it went something like, "heil Hitlet".....
They also showed Ms. Terrorisn was there. They had talked about how brave they were.
Running instead doing your duty as an elected representative.
Could you imagine what would have happened if everyone ran from the Alamo?
Ha! Figures. Did that grungy looking guy who drives the clunker with the giant paper mache hat and appendiges all over it (i think he calls it an "art car") show up? I have no doubt that his emissions stickers probably expired about 8 years ago.
I would have loved to have seen this one, but I'm in DC right now (but that does mean we get to freep Hilsama bin Rodham next week at her book signing!)
Rep. Farrar (D) gave a nice little whining fit to the camera.... claims repubs want to change the rules "something that democrats NEVER did"... Of course not, you ignorant slut - you had EVERYTHING YOUR WAY FOR 130 years.
The apparent "hero worship" of these Chicken D's is just enough to make one PUKE.
A governor with some real cojones would call a special session, have the House doors locked and guarded by the DPS/Texas Rangers, and keep these weasels on the job until redistricting and property tax relief are passed.
