[history]
On June 1, services began at 1 p.m. at the Confederate State Park at Higginsville [MO] in memory of those Confederate Americans buried there.
About 300 gathered to pay their respects. Those attending were descendants of those buried there, some were there to just pay their respects, and some came for the ceremonies.

This is truly shameful. Then again, what do you expect from people who supported a tyrant?

As long as people like Gephart and other liberals keep on getting elected you can forget about YOURS and MINE civil liberties. I'm a born Yankee and I have the utmost respect for the Confederates that have died for their beliefs.

If the state Government is so hostile to this cemetary, why dont they just sell it to a private organisation, so you could have your own (government free) ceremonies.

"The respects were limited by the government, which refused to let us display the Confederate flag. At all times park rangers were present, some even armed."
1) There is nothing wrong with the rangers being present and being armed.
2) So the one offense they seem to have committed is to limit free speech by disallowing the display of the Confederate flag. That is substantial, but the proper protest consists in waving it anyway, getting arrested, and then legally protesting this as an infringement of the 1st Amendment. That protest would do alot more toward protecting the erosion of our liberties than posting an ineffective whine. My opinion.

What do Gephart and the Confederates have in common? They were all Democrats!

Partisan, nice to hear from you. There have been a number of pro-Southern-heritage posts in recent weeks on which you haven't seen fit to make one of your typical hate-filled remarks, like this one, so I was afraid you were sick or something. You okay?

That is just plain offensive that they would ban the flag, even for the ceremony alone. Arlington National Cemetary in Washington had no problem whatsoever in letting them carry flags at the ceremony there. They didn't let them keep em flying or anything, but they let the people holding the ceremony do what they wanted during it.

Thanks. I criticize Democrats, not southerners. If you are proud of the fact that the Confederate rebels were Democrats, how's that working for you?

Colonel King is ignoring the fact that the Confederates were as anti-American as it gets, so much so that they killed 360,000 U. S. troops in their attempt to destroy our nation.

I don't agree with you, but I like you. And I do hold out hope that one day you'll come to understand the paradox that is today's Southerner. Now I'm headed out to a breakfast of biscuits and gravy, you Illinois boy! :^)

Thanks for the friendly reply. You understand, of course, that most southerners today are loyal to the United States Government, not to the memory of the Confederate rebels who fought against it.

They tried to establish their own nation just as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin had done before them. Remember?

If you want to venerate the Confederate rebels -- everyone of whom was a Democrat BTW -- have at it, while American patriots remain loyal to the United States of America.

Are you going to ignore things like Lincoln suspending laws at a whim and arresting state legislature members.

Isn't it time this Confederate-bashing ended? Should never have begun in the first place. But now that it's started it isn't going to end any time soon.
