ELMONT, N.Y.- Secretariat set track records in his Triple Crown races. Seattle Slew was the first, and only, winner of the Triple Crown while still undefeated. Affirmed beat an archrival who might have won the Triple Crown most any other year...

I just heard the weather report for NY. They are calling for a 70% chance of rain for Saturday night. Hope it holds off long enough to get the race in.

Funny Cide seems to be handling the surface at Belmont well. He's had 2 good works over it. But I hope the bullet work this past week didn't take too much out of him.

It's true that if you work a horse too hard before a race, it can cost him the race. The excercise rider said she couldn't hold him. ( I hope he can succeed for her sake , because she will catch some blame if he doesn't) It is also true that if you're on a horse who's pulling the reins out of your hands, it's not good to restrain him too much (especially a "strong" horse like Funny Cide) because he will wear himself out trying to fight you. That's not good for a race horse either mentally or physically. Here's hoping he can pull this off.

I'm not betting on the race, other than a $2 souvenier ticket, but good luck to everyone who did-as long as you bet Funny Cide to win that is ;-) I have to get my house ready and go buy the stuff for our annual Triple Crown party. Here is a listing of horse racing shows

Great> I will try to check in on the live thread. I'm going to have to sneak off to do it though, because of our party . We're going to have a house full of people and I have to do the hostess thing. I have to go pick up supplies now.

So we can make our prognostications now? I mean if I think it'll be Dynever, Empire Maker, then Funnycide in that order if the track is fast, can I say it here?

I just need to put it in writing so after the race I can say I said it! I did not realize the daily racing form had the horse histories on-line. Funnycide is a strong horse, but 1 1/2 miles is a long way. I think the other two are stonger at that distance. But with just six in it, where's the money?

Thanks for the forum.
