I care. My government lied to me about the Gulf of Tonkin … about what happened with the U.S.S. Maddox and C. Turner Joy. Robert McNamara's book nearly broke my heart because it confirmed my worst fears: that my friends died for a cause our leaders had effectively abandoned.

I also care because it is a threat to the President. It is a potentially powerful political issue. I care because of what has happened to Tony Blair’s approval rating. I care because Senate hearings are going to be held and will magnify the issue. I care because the whole question of WMD is laden with potential political trouble.

I also care because I care about the truth.

it was liberals who were citing Saddam's weapons of mass destruction – and with gusto – in order to argue against war with Iraq. They said America would suffer retaliatory strikes, there would be mass casualties, Israel would be nuked, our troops would be hit with Saddam's chemical weapons, it would be a Vietnam quagmire.

Since Saddam undoubtedly had the capacity to harm the United States, in war as declared by liberals, he had the capacity to harm the United States without a war.

The authorization for use of Military Power against Iraq, Public Law 107-243 [ Page 116 STAT. 1498 ] enacted by Congress overwhelmingly and with extensive debate, states, after providing 23 justifications for such action:

SEC. 3. AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.

(a) Authorization.--The President is authorized to use the Armed Forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary and appropriate in order to--

(1) defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and
(2) enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq.

(b) Presidential Determination.--In connection with the exercise of the authority granted in subsection (a) to use force the President shall, prior to such exercise or as soon thereafter as may be feasible, but no later than 48 hours after exercising such authority, make available to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate his determination that--

(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic or other peaceful means alone either

(A) will not adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq or
(B) is not likely to lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and

(2) acting pursuant to this joint resolution is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorist and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

(c) War Powers Resolution Requirements.--

(1) Specific statutory authorization.--Consistent with section 8(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution, the Congress declares that this section is intended to constitute specific statutory authorization within the meaning of section 5(b) of the War Powers Resolution.
(2) Applicability of other requirements.--Nothing in this joint resolution supersedes any requirement of the War Powers Resolution.

"I also care because I care about the truth."

The truth is this: Before the weapons inspectors left Iraq in November, 1998, they had confirmed the presence of "tons of chemical weapons" and "thousands of liters of biological weapons".

The liberal media has conveniently "forgotten" this very important fact.

Thus, when it comes to Iraq's WMD, "What the hell happened to them?" is a far more relevant question than "Why haven't we found any?".

The point is, Bush did NOT lie to us. Read it again, please, and perhaps it might answer your "questions."

Saddam Hussein has not been found yet. Does that mean Saddam Hussein didn't exist?

It may take months, or a year; but we will find both Hussein and WMD. My worry is that we don't find them all.

I care about truth also but unfortunately I don't expect it from anyone inside the beltway.

Besides the Gulf of Tonkin deceit there was Waco, Ruby Ridge, the Lusitania for WWI and also way back to Wounded Knee.

The Trail of Tears could have been prevented if we had followed the rule of law and the constitution. The president at that time I believe was Andrew Jackson. When the Supreme Court ruled his relocation of the Indians was illegal his response was something along the lines of try to enforce your ruling, I control the military and I have the guns.

I lost friends and family in Viet Nam, my Dad was there and served in Korea. I learned at a young age, being an army-brat, that don't trust anything you hear and only half of what you see. Verify for yourself or keep an open mind until you can.
