Freddie Blassie, famed pro wrestler, has died

Fred Blassie, who would be right as the top of any list of the greatest wrestling heels and most charismatic performers of all-time, passed away earlier today, it was announced on Raw. Blassie was 85.

Blassie had been hospitalized for a few weeks with kidney and heart problems and his condition had been grave for the past week.

I liked when he would bite a guy or hit him with a chair, and the referee would come over to admonish him, and he would threaten the referee and make him back away too.

He was a classic. I remember him well and just watched a tv special about him a few days ago.

Aww, you guys are a bunch of old farts. Not only did you know who Freddie Blassie was when you saw that he died, but you dug up a picture of Dick Lane to go with it.

I throw kitchen sponges at you. That's what my mother gave me to throw at the television when I got so mad at Freddie Blassie that I had to throw things at him. After one tomato (it missed and hit the wall), she decided a change in ammo was in order.

This is shocking. I just saw him a few weeks ago on Raw and he looked about as well as someone can be for someone his age. I had no idea of his health problems.

Years ago my parents bought the crusher's nephew's house. I always thought that was cool.

I was always a big"tricky" Nick Bockwinkel fan.

I lost interest in it after the AWA closed up shop. The other associations were all too fake and 'hollywoody' if you know what I mean. I still remember guys like Eduardo Carpantier (French gymnast type. Did lots of aerial type moves) and the red headed guys (Billy 'Red' Lyons and his partner), Pompero Firpo ("the wild bull of the pampas" with all that hair) and then the perennial lamb, George 'Scrap Iron' Gadasky who got beaten into a pulp every week. Good athleticism and good moves without all the 'darker' influences (the undertaker? give me a break). Just good clean fun.

I remember watching the old AWA on ESPN in the afternoons right after getting home from school. The Curt Henning vs. Nick Bockwinkel matches that used to go the full 60 minutes were classic.
