I guess all of the pencil-necked geeks out there can now breathe a sigh of relief.
R.I.P. Freddie Blassie.

Whats really sad, is the only time we ever have any news about wrestling on free republic, it has to do with a wrestler who died.
Freddie Blassie was truely one of the greats, and he will be missed.

Here's to ya, you old finger bitin' buzzard!! I remember the late, great Louis Grizzard had a lot of funny stuff to say about Freddie. Ole Louis is getting his super duper, very secret sleeper hold out of the moth balls and will have it waitin' on ya when you get to heaven.

I remember the great Blassie saying: "Sex is one of my three favorite activities; a martini before, and a nap after!"

Can anybody find the words to "Pencil-Necked Geek"? ... I can remember some of them but can't find the lyrics online yet ...

Anyone ever see, "My dinner with Blassie"? It was My Breakfast with Blassie, with Andy Kaufman. How do I know? I have an original copy on VHS.
Yeah, it's odd.

Correction: Actually the title is-
My Breakfast with Blassie (1983)
Here is a synopsis
"In essentially a two-man tour-de-force that parodies the better-known Dinner with Andre by Louis Malle, My Breakfast with Blassie features the late Andy Kaufman (he died from lung cancer soon after this film was released) and Freddie Blassie as two egocentric wrestlers -- roles they played in real life. As the two men display their egos like peacocks strutting their plumage, the reactions of people around them are as funny as the "breakfasting" duo. Kaufman announces "I'm a famous TV star" (he played Latka, the foreign mechanic on Taxi) and Blassie's open male chauvinism is so exaggerated as to be only humorous. The two also poke fun at banal table talk in-between their interchanges and develop a few other running gags. Although the climax is misconceived and should have been deleted or reworked, directors Johnny Legend and Linda Lautrec are to be commended for choosing a good duo, an appropriate setting, and putting all this together on close to a real-time shoot. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide"
There are lots of places to buy this movie. Here is one:

Coke bottle glasses,
I'm sitting in the corner with my finger up my nose,
And my shoelaces untied again,
Another day of school with no friends.
A social outcast,
Two grades ahead in math, with my highwater pants,
Giving meaning to pencil-necked-geek,
A dork or so to speak, tongue-in-cheek.
They're all sucker-punching me,
Get in line for a wedgie.
All I want and all I need,
Is someone who believes in me.
A song sung for underdogs, for all the left out.
A flag flying for losers, somewhere in the Heavens.
The God of ever-lasting comfort, believed in me,
Loved me when I was faithless, he still died for me.
Junior High schooler
With pencils in my pockets, and my Trapper Keeper busted,
Spilling papers and books on the floor,
Not wanting seventh grade anymore.
Another class-clown,
Acting like a goof to be accepted by my peers,
Giving meaning to pencil-necked-geek,
a dork or so to speak, tongue in cheek.
They're all sucker-punching me,
Get in line for a wedgie.
All I want and all I need,
Is someone who believes in me.
A song sung for underdogs, for all the left out.
A flag flying for losers, somewhere in the Heavens.
The God of ever-lasting comfort, believed in me,
Loved me when I was faithless, he still died for--
A song sung for underdogs, for all the left out.
A flag flying for losers, somewhere in the Heavens.
The God of ever-lasting comfort, believed in me,
Loved me when I was faithless, he still died for me.

He wrote that song?
That gave me chills. That touched me rather personally because my school days were pretty lonely (not as bad as that song, but didn't really have any friends).
I am glad I popped on this thread even though I didn't even hear of this man until now.

Whewwwie!! That's a mouthful!
Add me on that t'ing! Did Freddie wrestle in the Midwest? One of my early childhood memories is of watching grown men with animals heads on 'rassling in a big ring. The Moose, Dr. X, and many more..
