[history]
On the surface, the launching of war in the Middle East to rid the world of a ruthless tyrant and gain control of rich oil resources seemed to make some sense. Scratch below the surface, however, and the price began to seem absurdly high financially, politically and socially.

Surprise, surprise, the dear Prof is a peace activist who hates the military. Check out the following:
"On Military Social Service: How disturbed I was to see your article in the September 6 issue about ROTC as a means of providing funds for a college education. The education associated with ROTC is a contradiction to the academic freedom enjoyed at university campuses; military training on college campuses, in fact, makes a mockery of education. For from taking a global view of learning, ROTC encourages narrow patriotism and a philosophy of any means (killing people and polluting environments) to the end. The institutionalized mistreatment of gays and lesbians in the military and sexual harassment of women are par for the course." (signed) Katherine Van Wormer, Professor of Social Work, University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
I'm sure her radical political beliefs had nothing at all to do with her dispassionate pyschoanalysis of W.

As best I can tell, this woman thinks that anyone who is able to take a definitive stance on an issue (either "for it" or "against it") is apparently not thinking clearly. Unless, of course, that firm stance against something happens to be against George Bush.

"The fact that this was printed is what disgusts me". Well, the San Francisco Comical will print just about anything as long as it is pro-pervert, anti-American, anti white heterosexual Christian male. If people only knew about the discrimination that goes on at that filthy rag down there at 5th and Mission Streets in the late great city of San Francisco. They are bigots, hypocrites, perverts and truely evil scum...the whole entire lot.

Katherine van Wormer? Wasn't she the dean's horny wife in "Animal House?"

Hundreds of people, many of them in recovery from alcoholism, have written 'Aha" letters and provided additional insights to the hypothesis: "I spotted it right away -- he's a dry drunk." Or: "He needs to work on his issues." It's either pathologizing or projecting. Take your pick. Either way, it's also unethical to diagnose someone you've never met, when a health care professional. Her credibility is zero.

"Dry drunk" is a slang term used to describe the recovering alcoholic who is no longer drinking Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't ever recall GWB being described as "an alcoholic" unless it was a Dem smear. IIRC he claimed to have decided to quit drinking and just did. Not uncommon for someone in their late 30's and early 40's who partied hard when younger then grew up and considered the longer term consequences of continuing with their past behavior. My Dad was known as a real scotch drinker when he was a young man but when I came along he just basically said "okay, playtime's over, time to get serious."
Big difference between someone who drinks a little more than they should too often and a full blown AA lifer.
Writer has an axe to grind. 2+2=99 by her logic. Dumb and spiteful, IMHO.

"All-or-nothing thinking: This narrow and moralistic world view relates to extreme behaviors of indulgence and risk-taking. Because of the destructiveness of this either/or pattern of thinking in addicts, the treatment focus is placed here. " My first impression was that Katy with a worm must be a dry drunk herself--she exhibits all of the symptoms and it takes one to know one!
