LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. -- Police in the Chicago suburb of Lincolnwood said a 5-year-old boy was killed in a freak accident when a large mirror fell off the wall of a shopping mall clothing store.
Officers said the accident occurred Saturday afternoon in the Express women's clothing store at the Lincolnwood Town Mall.
The victim was identified as Jonathan Villagomez. Police said he was at the store with his mother and other family members when the 5-by-12-foot mirror suddenly fell off the wall and hit him.
The mirror was attached to a "false wall" in the dressing room, area police told WMAQ-TV, .
Store and mall managers would not comment on the incident other than to say their "prayers are with the family."
May you never lose a child and live to regret that witless and vulgar statement, even though you may well deserve to.
Hey you stupid freak! Yes, you! A LOT of teachers in public school are VERY competent and do their jobs correctly. How dare you make an offhand comment like that? Some of us are harrassed mercilessly for our conservative views. Why don't you start talking about the wretched school boards, superintendents who think they are God-appointed kings, and irrational parents?
A LOT more teachers are trying to do the job right than many of you here believe. And, how much support do we get from the likes of you and some of the rest? NONE. When I've stood up for what is right in the classroom (telling them exactly what Bill Clinton was like when he FIRST ran for president) and getting shown the door...who stood up for me? No one. I could go on and on with examples of spineless people living in America who will not stand up for what is right and want to blame everyone else. However, I believe I'll go read a reasonable thread where you are NOT posting.
Care to point out where/why and how?
It looks like a wall fell to which a large mirror was attached - placing it into a slightly different domain than simpy in Express's or Express's employees' lap ...
Actually it should have been tempered. Commerical glass is tempered and it's very tough. It also should have been tied into the wall studs. (or what passes for them in a commerical building)
I also wonder if they poor tyke didn't do somethign to cause this to happen.
Not that it makes what happened okay, because the mirror should have been mounted more securely to begin with.
If little boys can knock it off the wall, it was only a matter of time anyway.
Are you people reading further down in the thread to get the whole story?
Same story. It should have been secure. I bet the wall was intended to support it's weight only, was added and then the mirror added later.
Both the store and the contractor who did the build out are going to hang for this.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pinging Gummy who is a great teacher too!
I have long supported the immediate abolition of the Soviet Socialist Indoctrination Camps known as Public Schools.
For some reason, I get very little support from Teachers or Teachers Unions.
I'll be sure to read your post to some children of my acquaintance and ask if they know of any teachers who set the example you just set in your message. I suspect they will be able to name more than a few.
Oddly, when I suggested the mirror be set to proper technical specifications the children,uh,installation crew had a reaction quite similar to yours. They have been taught well.
Best regards,
I'm sure you can. I am not defending incompetent public school teachers OR officials. But to make a generalization like that without solid evidence that it applies to the majority makes you the one who needs an adjustment.
If you knew my story and the level of my teaching you WOULD APOLOGIZE! Tell you what, you send an e-mail to the poster with the name Brian_Mosely (I think that's how he spells it) and ask him about me. He won't tell you my name, but he can tell you whether or not I am shooting a line of bull. He can research the whole story for the time I spent teaching school in his area. You do that! Then, come back and respond to my posts. It is one thing to suffer insults from ignorant people whose children one is trying to teach. It is, however, adding injury to the insult to suffer disparaging comments from a member of one's own conservative group that should be more knowledgeable and well-educated than to make such inane statements.
I believe your colleague in Post #23 made my point.
Perhaps you would like to take issue with him/her.
The excellent teachers I know have all found work in the free market of private schools, tutoring or some other line of work entirely.
Since my remarks were directed at Public School Teachers I know they could not have possibly included you.
Best regards,
Perhaps he did. And if so, should specifically state it. I have NEVER joined a teachers' union and don't intend to. To lump those of us who have suffered job loss over standing up for what is right simply will NOT tolerate those kind of statements anymore. I will NOT tolerate it any more.
