Broward County sheriff's detectives are investigating what could be the country's first arson attack on an abortion clinic this year, officials said.
Detectives could not say for sure that the arson fire and vandalism at Dr. Michael Benjamin's Tamarac office was the work of political or religious extremists, but the case was assigned to the department's elite Strategic Investigations Unit, which handles the largest and most complex investigations.
On Sunday morning, just past midnight, someone started a fire at Benjamin's office in the 7700 block of North University Drive by pouring a flammable liquid on the door and through the mail slot. The small fire burned itself out but caused smoke damage inside, said Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Liz Calzadilla.
The same person or people used red paint to blot out Benjamin's name on two building directories and deface 10 parking spaces reserved for Benjamin's patients.

You probably thought that the nut that shot Slepian was likewise innnocentI did not pay attention to the news back then, so all I know about Slepian is what I've read in this website.
Were there many Christians who thought that Slepian's murderer was innocent?
To: cgk
Nothing unusual about it, scapegoats are universally sought after and found.
It says nothing about this particular case except that there are several possibilites and insurance fraud is one of them.

"Were there many Christians who thought that Slepian's murderer was innocent?"
Surprisingly that's a three part question.
There were many here on FR:
1. who claimed the mantle of "Christian" though their statements seemed a little short of some virtues.
2. many claimed that they thought Kopp [?] didn't shoot him, and
3. Some claimed that whoever shot him, he was "innocent" at least to the extent that Slepian had it coming to him.

"Do I win anything?"
Not much.
I guess I should have qualified my statement. The inference in the previous post (and other similar posts I've seen) was that the other side was setting these fires solely to make the pro-life movement look bad. This guy set this fire to cover up his own problems and to get insurance money.
Now, are you aware of any proof that the pro-abortionists have set fires or killed abortion clinic workers to make the pro-life movement look bad? Yes, I see that they CLAIMED it was pro-lifers, but that's not what I'm asking.

"LOL."
Once again, show me where the pro-abortion side has purposely set fires or killed abortion clinic workers solely in an effort to make pro-lifers look bad.

A documented incident in Los Angeles several years ago showed that Frank Mandiola called several abortion clinics and pro-choice leaders -- including himself -- with bomb threats. When caught, he was presented by the newspaper as being a poor confused dear who had caused a lot of problems but whose heart was in the right place, since he was wanting to have the media come down harder on prolifers. The idea that this was a slander against prolifers didn't occur to the court or to the reporter. To the contrary, the reporter was quick to say there was some truth in what he was doing, since the media had paid attention in other parts of the country. (Los Angeles Times, December 10, 1987).

Good thing the police have it narrowed down so quickly. I'm sure there's no chance that a fine upstanding citizen like "Dr." Benjamin would ever commit insurance fraud. Tearing babies into shreds, yes - but nothing as horrible as insurance fraud. My take exactly, Holmes. We all know that when these "pro-life" groups like Life Dynamics label these abortionists as "bottom feeders" within the Care-of-Women's-Reproductive-Health-at-any-Cost-Womb-Cleansing Industry, they're simply guilty of empty rhetoric.
And speaking of rhetoric, "tearing babies into shreds"? Come on now, Holmes. It's obvious you've yet to attend one of our dismemberment re-education sessions. Obviously, we have to evacuate the woman. But what else to do with such invasive parasites?

"...Can you cite any examples where it,s been proven that anyone other than pro-lifers have been responsible for this sort of thing?"
I think there was a case in Alabama about ten years back where an abortuinist was killed as part of a mob hit or something .

Well, that'll do the pro-life movement a lot of good. Every time something like this happens, or someone kills a doctor or someone else, the pro-life movement takes it in the shorts. An arsonist isn't exactly the sword I want to die on to defend. But this reflexive pro-life rep defensiveness tends to bother me a bit. Will we forever being putting forth as the highest ideal that we need to protect the pro-life community's reputation at the continued expense of babies, or will we protect babies at the eventual expense of our reputation?
I at least note that when Jesus chose Simon the Zealot (and Zealots believed in killing Romans in defense of their homeland), Scripture didn't then refer to him as Simon the ex-Zealot.

Hmmm, I own payphones in Ft. Lauderdale, Broward County.
One of my phones was vandalized with acid. Caused about $1,000 damage.
I called FTL Police to come out and meet me and make a report for insurance purposes. After all, I do pay property taxes on those payphones.
Police tell me no, they "don't do that". If I want to file a report, I could come down to the station and fill out some paperwork.
Excuse me, crime has been committed. I am victim. FTL Police couldn't care less.
No detectives, no special elite Strategic Investigation....nothing.
I guess my private business property is just not so important as a small fire & some spray paint at an abortion mill.

...someone started a fire...by pouring a flammable liquid on the door and through the mail slot. The small fire burned itself out but caused smoke damage inside... This stuff happens more regularly than this reporter knows. In 1989, around Christmas time, just after Operation Rescue began doing their stuff, three abortion clinics got 'torched'. The ATF studied the cases and concluded that all the evidence pointed to inside jobs. One of the receptionist desks had had a 'flammable liquid' poured all over it and it was set on fire causing damage just to the desk area. Whoever did it locked the door behind him when he left.
The pro-lifers were questioned extensively but the ATF could not finger any of them, mainly because they didn't do it. One abortionist was needing new air conditioning, so when his unit out back got hacked and torched, somehow the insurance paid for it. Hey, if you can blame the prolifers, why not see if you can get new air conditioning?
The news media never did report that the pro-lifers were not responsible. So, to this day people think that the pro-lifers did it.

In the past, many of the clinic fires were for the insurance money because the clinic was failing financially.

I just read Michelle Malkin's story about so-called persecuted Muslims and how at least three hate-crime stories turned out to be insurance frauds. Of course, that doesn't mean an abortion provider would EVER even CONSIDER.... No! No, of course not. No.
