Who is going to succeed GW?
Posted on 05/29/2003 11:32:51 PM PDT by ampat
Right now, there isn't a Republican presidential candidate ready to run in 2008. We don't need anymore "its my turn" Bob Doles. O'Reilly thinks hillary is a shoe in because the Republicans don't have anyone who can beat her. Cheney needs a rest, John McCain was once a contender but he has been wishy washy lately. Anyone have any nominees?

Great answer. What do you think of JEB. I don't think country will elect them back to back. I was thinking Condi/Jeb. I Like your reasons for Hayworth though

What is it with all you Bush legacy people....you sound like the demoncranks with their Kennedy b.s. The last thing we need to do is emulate the left...and if history is concilation, the Kennedy name was anything but a plus in 2002.
It's pure laziness to dig up another Bush because of name recognition...I'm sure there are many highly qualified republicans that would make great candidates.

Just remember, besides Hillary making most of the U.S. vote against her. Her hubby would be back in the White House. That enough, would make her un-electable.

Let's see if we can win in 04, gain some much needed Senate seats, enact some good policy, kill some more terrorists, and see where we are by the 06 midterms. Then we can talk about 08.

I think your #102 is correct. It's a little worrisome having a Bush run after a Bush. Jeb is a different man. But what would the public think of it? But then, if the opponent was another Clinton, I guess that issue would cancel itself out. As far as Condi's experience goes, I agree with you. And same for Governorship vs VP as a breeding ground. Big state, executive experience. Jeb is the top dog.

This is why Arnold Schwarzenegger will run for Gov of California! The Regan Hollywood Mystic and married to a Kennedy, plus he has saved us from certain destruction many times on the silver screen. No doubt about it! www.schwarzenegger.com

This is why Arnold Schwarzenegger will run for Gov of California! Read the Constitution some time. Especially Article II.

It's a little worrisome having a Bush run after a Bush. Jeb is a different man. To me it's less worrisome than the Cheney precedent; the man was living in Texas when he decided to run for VP from Wyoming--which he had, admittedly, represented in Congress. Jeb is Jeb, governor of Florida, not Texas. I think the best argument for him would be the total number of votes he has won by. That reflects his margin of victory and the size of the state he won in.

Having been in the Army when he resigned as Joint Chief, I know he would be loved by the Forces as CIC. If he is soft on going to war it is only because he loves the troops. His policy for Gulf War I was only if we went to war with a clear objective. No more wishy washy Vietnams that were winnable but the politicos had no intention of winning.
That was my impression and practically the same impression of everyone I knew in the military.

We would be kidding ourselves if we choose to ignore the fact that in all likelihood GWB, as any good CEO usually does, already has a succession plan.
A little known fact was how instumental both he and Rove were in Ronald Reagan's successful acsension to the White House.
Bush is a brilliant strategist and will assure the success of his inheritors -- that is, the loyal ones.

How about Condi/Santorum in `08 and Santorum/? in `16 ^_^.
He's my Senator! Gotta love him.

I don't disagree. In some ways I think Jeb is more impressive than GWB.

First of all, the Kennedy thing is not royalty. If they can get the people to vote for them, it is legal as much as I despise their politics.
Secondly, Jeb appears to be a VERY capable conservative who has proven his political prowess. What dont you like about Jeb besides his relationship to GW?

JMHO........................
Cheney provides a good, reliable, reasoned sounding board for Bush.
He can provide this in some other capacity in the Bush Administration. For the good of the Party he should take another position such as Sec. of State (get rid of Powell) and give the VP slot to someone they are going to groom for the President's position in 2008.

I haven't seen anything saying Jeb is unpopular across the US. Maybe not well known enough YET but that won't be a problem. A trend I detect in many of the postings have given me cause for concern. Many are advocating Jeb's candidacy for '08 and then his son afterwards. Am I the only one that is detecting a semblence of potential monarchy here?
I would not vote for another Bush on principle alone for I do not believe that the presidency should become a family business passed down from one generation to the next.
With all respect to the Kennedy family, I'm glad that events intervened (not condoning assasinations) to stop their family's political stranglehold on the presidency. For the same reason I would shudder to think of Hillary's election followed by Chelsea.
