Hollywood Legend Jane Russell Slams Abortion In Interview

LONDON, May 28, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The UK Life League, a British pro-life group has reported that Jane Russell, the 1940s and '50s Hollywood movie star and pin-up girl, now aged 82, gave an interview this week slamming abortion. "People should never, ever have an abortion. Don't talk to me about it being a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body. The choice is between life and death," said Russell.

Describing her shock at finding herself pregnant at 18: "The only solution was to find a quack and get an abortion. I had a botched abortion and it was terrible. Afterwards my own doctor said: 'What butcher did this to you?' I had to be taken to hospital. I was so ill I nearly died. I've never known pain like it." Russell says that due to the abortion she was not able to have any other children.

I'm not ashamed. If I had been, I wouldn't have had it. That was almost 25 years ago.

Want to tell us more? If you are not ashamed or sad about it, why not give some insight into WHY you feel the way you do? I'm interested, and I imagine others are as well.

If you read my posts, my sis had an abortion (thanks DAD). She never told the guy (babe's father). He had no say in it. Neither did she. She is now going back and apologizing to him for decisions that happened.

RAT Patrol: So you never look at a 25 year old and wonder what your child would have looked like if he/she had lived?

Hildy: Honestly? Until you just mentioned it, I never thought about it, not even once.

Dude, that is sad. I sincerely hope that you are not a mother now. (Your kid: "Mom, how come you never told me you loved me?" You: "I never thought about it, not even once.")

Heartless.

Have just noticed that you have stated that you indeed experienced this 25 years ago.

If it was so "nothing" --- like blowing one's nose or something --- why even remember WHEN it happened?

I know a girl who if she didn't have an abortion would never have met her current husband or had her son. Should she regret the path she chose that led her to her husband and son? Think about it. She is very happy with her life and wouldn't change a thing.

What a remarkable coincidence. I know a boy (my brother) that grew to manhood, married a stunningly beautiful woman (her twin is married to a brain surgeon if that tells you anything), is raising a gorgeous family, is very financially successful, and all because his birth-mother let him live. Pretty impressive if you consider he's a rape baby.

I guess the REALLY important thing is who gets to be happy.

You are misunderstanding the statement.

In my earlier post, I had not understood that she had herself experienced an abortion. I was acknowledging in this post that I had made an error and was now realizing that she herself had undergone one.

It is NOT nothing, "like blowing a nose," to have an abortion, imho. I told her take my earlier remarks with a grain of salt, because I was afraid that she might take them as me trying to be her judge and jury. That is simply above my pay grade! I have not been in her shoes, and I do not choose to cast a stone. I'm speaking ONLY for myself. I think she went through a difficult time. She has opened herself up to us, and I think she deserves some compassion. Again, I am expressing my own opinion here. I am saying nothing about anyone else's statements or choices. I am expressing my own.

Interesting to find out the "rest of the story" about Hollywood legends. How the spin differs from reality!

Actresses Jennifer O'Neill and Patricia Neal also regret abortions they had and are active pro-lifers.

She said she would never choose adoption because she would always wonder if the parents were abusers.

...so she gave her child the worse kind of abuse. I don't get it....???

She didn't want a baby to be created at all.

Then she shouldn't have had sex. Duh. Women do "have the right to choose." The choice is whether or not to have sex in the first place.

It's possible she may have still have met her husband if she chose adoption but I doubt she would tinker with the past to find out.

Well, considering that the "past is being tinkered with," wouldn't it have been more wonderful to have the husband, and "her current great situation," and the baby?? It's okay to say that a good situation came out of something bad, but you can't use the good situation to justify making the bad decisions.

She has no regrets.

None? I find that hard to believe that even after having another child, anyone could be so heartless.

Wow.

For the last time, I found myself pregnant at the age of 20, unprepared and unwilling to have a child. I had an abortion. Do I wish I never got pregnant? Yes. Do I wish I hadn't had sex at such a young age? Yes. do I regret having the abortion? No. Do I mourn the loss of this child? No. Do I think of what this child would look or be like today? No. Have at me.

"How do you know "most women have regrets." In my experience, most women don't."

In my experience, most women DEFINITELY do.

I am not trumpeting it. I'm telling this thread, right now, that there are many women who have had abortions that do not regret it, do not mourn it and do not cry about it. This is a fact. Don't you people get that I am trying to tell you something.
