Besides having to deal with the emotional and physical distress of having been raped, you want the rape victim to have to deal with the emotional and physical distress of having murdered an innocent unborn child?

I want that woman to have a choice, and not be forced by lawto carry her rapist's bastard.

This position also makes you personally complicit in the act of placing blood on her hands.

I can live with that.

Yes, but you sidestepped my question. Should the MAP be with-held from rape victims?

My 12 week deadline is due to the development of the nervous system. I don't know the exact timing, in fact it could be several weeks earlier. But when the baby becomes animated, the scientific explantion is that the nervous system has switched on. An ancient religious belief, called The Time OF Quickening, maintains that this burst of activity is a sign that the baby has received its soul, and is now a seperate entity. I beleive this happens about 12 weeks, though it could be several weeks sooner. Either way, an abortion after that point would be wrong, in my view. It is either killing a seperate person; or inflicting pain on the fetus, which is now capable of sensing it...in other words, torture. So after this date, I would not support abor'n except in a few extreme cases, and this one about the retarded rape victim certainly seems to fit. This is my view.

Mengele? Just great. I have been heaped with abuse on this thread. And why? For simply stating that I believe it is not humane or kind to knowingly bring a sick/deformed child into the world. Scorned for my belief that terminating such a sick pregnancy (not even getting into the fact that it was a retarded rape victim!) would not be cruel, since you are saving some little baby from entering into a lifetime of suffering. My opposition on this thread seems to feel that suffering is a necessary part of life, a grace bestowed by their version of God which must be appeased with what amounts to, child sacrifice. Attacked because my belief is that The Time of Quickening, at or about 12 weeks, is when the baby receives its soul. (And that is from my version of God, which I admit to having almost no understanding.) No, there can be only one viewpoint on this subject, that of the hardline pro-lifers, the group that believes, no, that is not the correct word...they don't 'believe', they 'know'...the life begines at conception. Whoa to those that disagree, even if only be degree or timing. When I first started lurking here, all those years ago, I noticed that abortion threads had a wide range of views. Not now. The viewpoint has narrowed to only one outcome. I had received several private emails warning me about what was to befall me if I dared to argue with pro-life group think. Now I understand the warnings. You folks, thru derision, have chased away most of your debating partners. Soon, the only ones that will dare to vist will be the cranks, those who want to rattle your cage for a little bit of fun. Serious debate will end, because you will have no one to debate with. Maybe that is what you want? I can't imagine that it will be much fun. COunt me out.

Thanks a lot.

>>abortion is needed for rape victims>>

So your ethics are situational... how sad for you.

It is either killing a child or it isn't. We all know that it is. So the issue for you is dependent upon retardation or disability? Kill it if the woman is one or both?

Your ethics are dismissed as flawed.

I'm sorry you chose not to actually read my comment in the post you quoted a phrase from. I've enclosed my full comment below. Please pay special attention to the word "their". Thanks.

I agree. This case and the other case in FL involving a raped, disabled, pregnant woman were causing them to celebrate. They finally had REAL stories to back up their claims that abortion is needed for rape victims, AND when the mother's heatlh is at risk.

This victory - for the BABY - is a double whammy for them. They lose on both counts.

I agree with you. One would get that impressions about many in the 'pro life' camp wouldn't they?

I'm always amazed at people who have never studied the Bible, only what people say about the Bible, but are so quick to accept those people's erroneous interpretations of the Bible!
