Vanity - Wireless Broadband Connection Test to FR
HAL9000 | May 28, 2003 | HAL9000

Testing testing 1 2 3 am I logged on?

This is a test of a wireless broadband connection to Free Republic. The T1 was turned on a few minutes ago and I've just switched on my connection about 2.5 miles away from the access point using a 19dB 2.4 GHz WiFi antenna from SmartBridges.com.

This is a good way to get broadband service in rural areas where the phone company and cable company do not offer wireless service.

Any entrepreneural FReepers in a similar situation with networking skills might consider starting a wireless broadband service in their area.

The main antenna is bridged to my local Airport wireless access point, so I can lay in the backyard hammock and surf FR.

26kbps is the max we get, we're strung out so far out on copper.
