Letter: Republicans Abroad in Israel to President Bush against Roadmap

27 May 2003

The Honorable George Bush President of the United States of America The White House Washington DC

Dear Mr. President,

We, the Republicans Abroad - Israel, would like to applaud your leadership in the global war against terror.

By removing the Taliban from power in Afghanistan, and eliminating the evil regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, your administration has made the world a safer place for democracy and freedom. Under your stewardship, America has once again demonstrated that it is a benevolent superpower, one which uses force not to impose tyranny on others, but rather to liberate them from it.

As such, we are especially perplexed by your decision to press for the implementation of the Middle East "Road Map", which is slated to lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Since September 2000, the Palestinian Authority has engaged in a campaign of terror against Israel, and it is inconceivable that they should now be rewarded with statehood for their mindless acts of violence.

Moreover, as a result of various Palestinian attacks, more than a dozen American citizens have been killed during this period. Justice demands that the Palestinian Authority turn over those responsible for these acts to the United States, something they have thus far failed to do.

We believe that pressuring Israel to negotiate with terrorists at the same time that America is waging war on terror is both morally untenable and intellectually inconsistent. It blurs the clarity of vision which you have repeatedly enunciated since the September 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington, and sends the wrong message to terrorists around the world, namely, that violence can and does pay.

Mr. President, as loyal members of the Republican Party, we would also urge you to consider the political consequences which pursuit of the "Road Map" will likely entail.

Pressing ahead with this plan will only serve to alienate American Jews and the Christian right, many of whom view the "Road Map" as an act of defiance against the Divine promise to bestow the Land of Israel to the people of Israel.

Indeed, we are aware of increasing numbers of American citizens - both here in Israel and in the United States - who are now considering abandoning the Republican party as a result of your Administration's pursuit of the "Road Map".

In light of the above, we would therefore urge you to reconsider, and to cease pressuring Israel to implement the "Road Map".

For, as Vice President Richard Cheney said following the recent terrorist attack in Riyadh, "The only way to deal with this threat ultimately is to destroy it. There's no treaty that can solve this problem. There's no peace agreement, no policy of containment or deterrence that works to deal with this threat. We have to go find the terrorists".

Therefore, we believe the United States should stand behind Israel during these difficult times, and give it the full backing and support it requires to defeat the ongoing Palestinian terrorist threat which it faces on a daily basis.

I never heard that either; Bush was very specific in what he set down.

And there was NO time limit.

The WH had announced on the Saturday before Powell arrived in the ME that the road map was not to be the main issue of the trip. News accounts on those days stated that the Bush Administration had shelved it. Then the bombings happened during Powell's trip, probably prepared for just that reason and the Bush Administration did an about-face on the road map. I am providing evidence. Where is yours?

I am providing evidence.

No, you're providing YOUR words that back up YOUR agenda, not evidence at all.

You're so postive about your statements, I'm sure can find something IN PRINT by a credible source to back it up.

Insult ?

Are you insulted by "Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing ?"

Some people are insulted by those words, but not you.

Is it written in the Bible that Israel will be protected by the United Nations ?

Why is it that no matter what bush does, even if it is wrong, you defend him?

Not true. If you would have done some research before you posted, you would know that I have been against Bush on many things. Even some of the Bush bashers know this, as do the Bushbots.

Ah, the cult phenomenon. People tend to idolize leaders, whether good or bad. It is not President Bush's fault that others idolize him. He is just a man elected to lead. If he leads well, follow him. If he falters, replace him. He is just a man and there are other Republicans.

Now if we can just get him to follow the Bush Doctrine ...

Why are you mixing statements to get what you want??? If you believe the Bible, it says that Israel will be protected. Take up your silly question with the Author of the book, He did not confide in me when He wrote it as to what He meant.

Bush is creating a future crisis. We are creating a future terrorist state. We are creating a future Iraq – but one a lot closer to ground zero, which is Israel.

Today in the Palestinian Authority, this future state created by Bush and Blair, children are indoctrinated from the age of 2 to hate Jews. They are taught the highest calling is martyrdom. They are taught to fight the Israelis to the death. These schools, subsidized by U.S. taxpayer dollars and European euros, are little more than breeding grounds of future Saddam Husseins and Osama bin Ladens.

Here was one of their chants during the war, "Oh, beloved Saddam, we are ready to sacrifice our blood for you." Here's another beauty: "Our beloved Saddam, hit Tel Aviv."

The demonstrators burned American and British flags and pictures of George Bush.

I hope all Americans will join me in urging President Bush to reconsider this sellout of freedom in the Mideast.

Well... and without a whole lot of explanation and in no particular order:

1. immigration/borders
2. not going after the Clintons
3. too much dependency on Karl Rove
4. too nice to Arafat
5. too nice to Canada
6. not appointing judges during recesses
7. not exercizing his veto power

There are more. I just can't think of them all right now. That withstanding, though I disagree with the President on these and other issues, I still support him 100%. Why? Because there simply isn't a candidate out there other than GWB who I feel can lead this country properly. Then again, I also know that there will never be a candidate that I will agree with 100%. And for me, that's as realistic as it gets.

50 years of fighting and killing has done nothing, it is time to try something new.
Don't be insulted while I pick apart your sentence.
  1. 50 or so years of fighting and killing has sustained the people of Israel in the land of Israel so that there are millions today instead of perhaps, none.
  2. The Arabs had an offer on the table in 1948 for two states. They not only walked away. They invaded the areas earmarked for the Jews. In spite of all that, I'm certain Israel would make a deal if the Arabs gave up violence. No one should be asking Israel's leaders to sacrifice security. Let Israel fight the war on terror as our ally, or at least do not hinder them. Remember the French, Germans, and Canadians ?
  3. War never solved anything
except slavery, facism, communism, and the marginal tax rate problem of the King George of England.
  4. Is it time to try something new about the illegal immigration into what remains of the United States ? Should we convene a peace conference with Mexico to return the occupied territories to their rightful owners ?
