And Yahoo wrote the OTHER captions on the OTHER pictures; how can she "diss" him in one, and be happy as clams in the others?

Black Hebrew Israelite:

Black supremacy group. Black Hebrew Israelite sects include "The Stream," "Original African Hebrew Israelite Nation of Jerusalem," "Nation of Yahweh (Yahweh Ben Yahweh)," "New York Yahweh," etcetera.

In many ways, Black Hebrew Israelite beliefs are a mirror image of the white supremacist Christian Identity religion, which holds that northern Europeans, not Jews, are God's true chosen people. Both see Jews as the spawn of Satan and accuse them of secretly controlling society by Machiavellian string-pulling. Tom Metzger, leader of the White Aryan Resistance, has said, "They're the black counterpart of us."

Black Hebrews believe the descendants of American slaves and the indigenous peoples of the Americas make up the 12 tribes of Israel. They expect to some day return to Israel (which they call "Northeast Africa"). Adherents reject black Africans, who are usually seen as ''traitors'' who sold their black brethren into slavery.
[...]

The origins of the Black Hebrew Israelite religion may stretch back to before the Civil War. By 1896, "Prophet" William Crowdy founded a sect in Kansas. The religion permitted polygamy, forbade birth control and decreed strict dietary laws similar to Judaism.

By World War I, there were congregations in several major cities. By the 1980s, others had appeared in Israel and several other countries.

"he racism, paranoia and millenialism that they have is very flammable," says Suliman Nyang, an expert at Howard University. "They want to take on the entire system, the entire world that they think is evil and against them. The line between reality and imagination doesn’t exist for them."

Whatever that caption is, it's wrong.

I'm guessing the caption is correct, but badly worded so as to imply an intentional "dis" by Whitney. Even though she's whacked out, I don't think she'd intentionaly disrespect the PM.

What is the proper protocol for the Black Isrealites when members of the opposite sex meet? Do they shake hands?

I didn't apologize for anything; you're the one who made the charge; all you posted was an article saying she didn't shake hands with Sharon.

You have no proof of WHY, but go right ahead.

She didn't shake his hand, because he's the wrong color. Black Hebrew Israelites are a Black Supremist group who believe that all White people are spawns of the devil.

if you look at all the pictures, they don't give ANY indication of anything bad happening at all.
I assume you mean other than the death of their fashion sense and the murder of some perfectly good head-shop window curtains?

Nope, it really does say that she refused to shake hands.

The actual article is here, read the 3rd paragraph:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030527/ts_alt_afp/israel_sharon_music_030527200556

She's an addict and an anorexic visiting a polygamous vegetarian sect. Thus it would not be surprising to learn that she has some hangup with shaking hands.

I can't believe I actually took the time to look up the answer to this thread's teapot tempest...

Houston did not 'diss' PM Sharon.

SHE visited HIM, not the other way around. HE took time from HIS schedule to meet with HER.

That is not a 'dissing'

She has family in Israel. Dimona, to be exact. They are part of a community of African Hebrews in that town.

What's your game, newbie?

She's everything you said, but the article said:

Houston did not shake hands with Israel's burly premier, leaving it to her husband the former singer Bobby Brown.

I don't know why. And I'm willing to wait to hear the facts.

Flame wars are usually NOT a good thing. Occasionally they are tolerable, and in rare cases needed.

In this case, a flame war over someone posting something that Yahoo posted, is pretty silly. And those who jumped aren't completely in the wrong because there was no source link originally to check.

Please, let it drop.

Well if Sharon had only offered his hand to her husband, I doubt the press would have noted that she didn't shake hands with him.

Its not that big a deal, just an awkward moment due to simple culture differences. Since customs and affronts for some cultures are being written and rewritten almost daily, these incidents are bound to happen. Heck, for all I know saying 'Happy Kwanza' to her may have already gone from expected to an insult.

"Whatever that caption is, it's wrong."

Exactly.

I don't know what Whitney's personal politics are these days, but she visited him, not the other way around.
