Yeah, does this mean less likely to be stabbed, beaten, or clubed to death? In other words, are they more likely to survive violent encounters, but don't do as well against attacker armed with guns as they do against those with knives?

They would rather they was pushed outta windows...

And I'm sure that almost all suicide victims knew their assailant and were killed with their own gun. Thank heavens for experts.
To: Excuse_My_Bellicosity
The last time a study was done like this, they included gun owners who lived in crack houses. Naturally, they accounted for a large percentage of those killed by gunfire.

So owning a gun makes one more likely to commit suicide? Sorry to be morbid, but people who are sucidal and own a gun will use the gun. Those who don't have one will find other means. Saying a gun makes one MORE LIKELY to commit suicide is crazy talk.

More than half of victims knew their assailants, and 15 percent of killings arose from family arguments. If a woman uses a gun to prevent someone she knows from raping or battering her, that figure is counted here. So....that's a bad thing, right??? She should have allowed it, right??? What am I missing???
To: Richard Kimball
"People who are shot are substantially more likely to die than people injured with non-gun weapons," I can see a lawsuit against the knife and brass-knuckle industries due to the ineffectiveness of their products.

And people who keep tranquilizers and booze in their home are more likely to commit suicide by overdose than people who don't. What is the point? (Other than another attempt to display guns as having some sort of magical property.)

You better be worried about it affecting your brain. Are you wearing your tin foil hat so that the gun can't take control of your motor functions and make you kill yourself?

How many of the homicides involved people who had guns illegally?

Maybe I should lock it up in a lead-lined case. I've tried wearing tinfoil at night but it always winds up on the floor.

Did you catch the manipulation inherent already in the clippet?
16 times more likely to commit suicide using guns.
Whoops!
Without a gun...suicide is committed by some other way 105% of the time (Canadians were surprised). Yes...105% of the time...more suicides.
So...let's take suicides off the table...now the 2x number no longer holds the entire study falls apart and the demonized gun owners are now unlikely heroes.

No...the suicide rate went *up*...but firearms weren't involved, so it's OK.
