Before I pay one penny towards my son's college education, he will be required by me to read this. I don't doubt that this will be a problem; at 10 years old, he can spot a liberal a mile away!

What do you use to view your DVDs, by the way? Don't tell me you sit in front of your computer monitor.

Yep, that's exactly what I do. The money I could've invested in a TV was invested in a very nice office chair (two actually). I'm happy enough watching things on a 21 inch monitor- I don't need a satellite dish connection to the BBC or CNN to provide that experience.

There is practically nothing I can think of that comes on TV (that I want) that I cannot also get via the internet or through a computer related medium. BBC's Blue Planet or Fawlty Towers? Get it on DVD. News? Internet... New movie comes out? Cinema. What do I need a television for? Why is this short sighted? That's rubbish.

TV is not for me. I understand some like it. For me, the decision not to own one comes as a result of a "what do I gain versus what do I lose" equation. I'm sure there will be a law soon that says I must own a television but until then, I absolutely don't need one. I don't miss it at all, in fact- I don't have time for a television since I got rid of it.

To each his own.

Out curiosity, can you name one thing I ought to buy a television for? You call me short sighted and unfortunate. I challenge you to provide an example of my short-sightedness. What am I missing? What void in my life could television fill? I don't mean this in a combative way. It's a serious question.

Sure. Neil Cavuto's daily biz show on Fox News, and Brit Hume's show as well. Both top-notch.

I barely have time to watch anything either, but both of these shows are on in the background if I'm near a TV. I allocate TV time for the useful/important stuff.

And BTW, I have Fawlty Towers in my DVD collection, too!

Why do you think there was 5 times as many reporters at the Annika golf game? Why Tiger wood make more in sponsorship than all the other pro-golfers combined?

Because they're charasmatic people who can shake up a bunch of stodgy old duffers and attract new viewers?

Thanks for posting this. I've sent a copy via e-mail to my daughter, graduating from high school in a couple weeks, telling her that these are "words of wisdom from a thinking man, please read, no matter how painful or dull it may be to you."

I just got this by email, and was ready to post it, but a quick search showed it was already there.

A true classic. I hope the brainwashing faction reads it and weeps.
