On Dice I found 53 for programmers in Ct. Over 100 in Florida, almost 500 in California. 2464 nationwide, using "programmer" as a search keyword. Didn't try it without that and just in computer field alone.

Oh, Goody. 53 in CT
That means of the 500 that got laid off in the last 2 years from CIGNA alone, and the new graduates, about 250 more, there are how many people per job? 13 people for each job?
Now, add in the people who lost jobs from Aetna and The Hartford. And Pratt. And Sikorsky. And Hamilton Sundstrand. And the banks.
Are we seeing a pattern here?

Those are phoney baloney jobs... made up so to cover the hiring of foreign H1B workers.
Perhaps you will lose your job someday to a foreign worker....now that would be rich.... or POOR in your case.

When I was first laid-off, I thought there were a ton of jobs out there. I was surely going to have a job within a few weeks. The months passed and no job. That's when I realized how old the jobs were on Dice or sometimes the jobs never existed in the first place. I'm not sure what the logic for posting these outdated jobs is. I never figured it out. Maybe it's to get people to view their web site.

Those advertised postings are dummies, intended purely to keep the advertiser's name before the public. To get real jobs, you have to maintain your network with others in the field.

Most of the jobs on Dice are listed by headhunters, and many jobs are listed more than once, by different headhunters. Furthermore, for each actual new job, there are thousands of applicants. In the SF Bay area, the e-mail servers are unable to handle the number of e-mails and resume attachments.
