She and her son have my sympathies and prayers. I wonder, though, if she'd feel the same if a conservative icon were similarly afflicted.

The superstar's fiercely independent son Jason Gould, 36,....HA ! Fiercely independent??? He's 36 years old ! ! ! He's SUPPOSED to be fiercely independent.
Sheesh.
I didn't notice anything in the article about how he contracted HIV. Gee, I wonder.

Sure, so do I. I may detest Barbra Streisand, but I would not wish this on anyone.

No forgiveness required. I feel bad too. I feel bad for Eliot Gould too. My brother died of AIDS, I miss him every day, it is no joke. He was under 40 when he died. He has missed so much. My sister-in-law committed suicide, she too has missed out on so much. These people were my daughter's godparents, we chose poorly, no? But Adam and Eileen were our fave sibs. I still don't understand why we had to lose them.
Sorry, sentimental moment on a rainy memorial day.

Addictive personality
Low self-esteem.

No need to apologize. I will add them to a prayer list.
The big distinction between ~us~ and ~them~ is charity.

You need no forgiveness for feeling sorry for them....you would be a monster if you didn't. Pray Barbra...pray Jason.

No need to ask forgiveness. No need at all.
A child is your child no matter what his/her age or the age of the parent. I despise Ms. Streisand. However,I will pray for her and her son that they get through this ordeal and that they both find the peace they should have through their mother/son relationship. All the money in the world can't fix this problem...not all the money in the world. Very sad situation. Very sad!

AIDS is the most preventable of all diseases. I don't feel sorry for any AIDS victims.

It is a human tragedy. Headstrong people often make their own problems in families, even though at root their love is unquestionable. No matter what side of the political divide we are on, we all are subject to pain in our families. This is a matter for prayer.

It definitely doesn't help that George W. is in the White House, either.

I clicked into this thread with all kinds of nasty thoughts to write. Then I started reading some others'. I will pray for her and her son that they can one day reconcile their differences and make up before one of them dies. I will still despise her political views but she is a human being with feeling just like me.

As much as I loathe Barbra Streisand and her political views, I sympathize with what is going on with her son as a mother.
Dammit.

All of us, at differring times in our lives, have trying experiences that bring clarity to us, and after going through these things we often rid ourselves of bull---t that no longer seems important. Maybe Babs wont' be spewing too much 'Republicans starving the elderly' crap anymore.

You're not alone. My heart goes out to her in this painful time and I will offer a prayer for her and her son. In a more just world, she would have had many grandchildren -- and one who loved to sing.
Please forgive me, but I feel sorry for them.
