Jane to the rescue as Ted's world collapses
Star | June 3, 2003 (Current Issue) | Tony Brenna

Media mogul Ted Turner is being rocked by devastating personal and professional problems. But he's not facing them alone -- faithful ex-wife Jane Fonda has rallied to his side.

Turner is shattered after suffering huge financial loses, say sources. He's also been hit by health problems and is brooding about his split from Frederique D'Arragon, the beautiful redhead he turned to after his marriage to Jane crumbled.

But Fonda, the wife of nine years he divorced in 2001, is firmly in his corner.

"Jane wants to be a part of Ted's life again, to help him through this," says a source close to the divorced couple. "He's never been lower than he is now.

"Jane says she's even willing to move back in with Ted on a temporary basis, until he feels better. He's still trying to make his mind up about that."

The billionaire's alarmed friends recently called Jane after he began dissolving into tears over his misfortune, says a source.

Turner's lost billions on the 1996 deal to sell Turner Broadcasting -- including CNN -- to what is known today as AOL Time Warner, says a source His holding have plunged from $10.7 billion to $1.4 billion.

"And he can't come to grips with being thrown off the board, having lost control of CNN," says the source.

Turner also was sent reeling by news that he has a heart problem, adds the source. In April, just weeks after splitting from artist D'Arragon, doctors at an Atlanta hospital had to shock his heart back into a regular beat becuase he had an irregular rhythm.

And he was shaken by talk that he might eventually need a pacemaker to maintain a regular beat.

"Ted hates to be ill," says a source. "He's used to being rudely healthy, an outdoorsman. The thought of being an invalid frightens him."

As a result, Turner, 64, has gone from being Captain Outrageous and The Mouth From the South, famous for his blistering remarks, to a shadow of his former self.

Anxious Jane, 65, has make several secret visits to see Ted, hoping to rescue him from his despair, says the source. She also speaks to him for hours on the phone.

"Ted is in a major transition at every level," explains Jane. "And for an alpha male who has always been in contol, it's very unsettling."

Despite his toubles and Jane's devotion, Ted continues to romance other women.

Since splitting in March from D'Arragon, he's been linked with Rebekah Stewart, a Jane look-alike who owns an exclusive fishing resort in Georgia, and pretty Ramsey Scott, Ted's date at a recent UNICEF Stars for Little Stars Galla Benefit in Atlanta.

Jane, who was also at the event, handled the situation with dignity and class.

"Ted introduced his date to Jane, who wasn't put off or jealous," says a source.

"She met the younger woman graciously because Jane knows that these other women come and go -- but she has a lasting place in Ted's heart.

"Jane knows that Ted will always be pursued by women attracted to his money and power. But most of them aren't up for the long haul with him."

And Turner is the first to admit that he's lost without a strong woman like Fonda at his side.

"I'm like a little baby left at a doorstep, needing a woman to atake care of me," he says.

That's why he's letting the actress help him through his darkest hour.

"Ted loves Jane and appreciates her visits," says the source.

"Despite their divorce, she's a woman he trusts. It's Jane he turns to when he needs advice and comfort, when things are geting him down.

do they _REALLY_ understand what it's like to have 1.4 BILLION dollars?

It means having 2 1/2 truckloads of steal boxes filled with $100 bills.

ROTFLMAO! Makes it easier to VISUALIZE doesn't it? LOL!

I can already see her sitting in the turret of her SUV ready to shoot down any of Ted's enemies.

I kinda see her sitting Ted down so she can read Bible verses to him until he screams halleluah!!

I don't think Jane is an evangelical Christian. I read shortly after her conversion that she was still pro-choice. So, if anything, she is one of those wishy-washy, go-along-to-get-along, don't-offend-anyone, feel-good Christians.

Ted has nothing to worry about.

At least not yet.

C. S. Lewis said "God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse the deaf world."

Prayers for Ted, that he might return to his first Love. And likewise for Jane.

...faithful ex-wife Jane Fonda has rallied to his side.

A man has three faithful friends. An old dog, and old wife, and ready money.

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that." But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

Where is this quotation?

Poor guy, why he's down to his last billion. It's just a shame.

Don't you wish you had a billion? Doubt if I would feel down and out if I did.

The don't-offend-anyone part isn't working for her.

Our ways are not God's ways.

Lot's of people have lost dear ones but their faith remained strong. Obviously Ted did not have a strong, sincere faith in God and since his prayer about his sister was not answered, to his satisfaction, so he chose to persecute and ridicule Christians and renounce God.

Perhaps the Lord still has a plan for Ted Turner and is working it out as we watch. Hopefully Ted will return to his faith (or really discover it for the first time) like the Prodical son, after his wealth was squandered.

I believe Ted is at a breaking point and that the Holy Spirit is at work. We never know how many more chances we will have to accept the Lord. I pray that his pride will no longer stop him from receiving the greatest gift he could ever receive.

Sorry. James 4:13-16

James 5 gets even more interesting.
