On Saturday, the Boston Herald ran a front page picture of a young child putting a flad on a soldier's grave. My four-year old saw the picture and asked about it.

I told her what the boy was doing, and why. We've been talking about what Memorial Day means, and I told her how over 100 of our soldiers died fighting Saddam's soldiers. She said: "That's TERRIBLE!! I don't want our soldiers to die!"

She said she wanted to do what the boy in the picture was doing. So today we went to the local cemetary with a small American flag and found a soldier's grave.

My daughter planted the flag, and then I showed her how to put her hand over her heart and stand still with respect while I said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Then we prayed and asked God to take care of all the soldiers who have died, and to bless America.

It was both a spiritual and a patriotic experience. I'm so glad we did it.

When they went to war, they usually were around your age. They wanted to live and love. They liked women, and they liked to hang out and horse around and most of the other things you do.

Death in the Ia Drang Valley The amazing thing about all this was that from the time Richards was killed to the time Burroughs was hit, only a minute or two had elapsed. Hundreds of men had been hit all around us, and the sound of men screaming was almost as loud as the firing.

Take AF_Blue's advice. Follow the link in the original article and read about Desmond Doss, the Seventh-Day Adventist and conscientious objector that won the MOH on Okinawa without firing a shot. It's simply amazing.
