On Saturday, the Boston Herald ran a front page picture of a young child putting a flad on a soldier's grave. My four-year old saw the picture and asked about it.

I told her what the boy was doing, and why. We've been talking about what Memorial Day means, and I told her how over 100 of our soldiers died fighting Saddam's soldiers. She said: "That's TERRIBLE!! I don't want our soldiers to die!"

She said she wanted to do what the boy in the picture was doing. So today we went to the local cemetary with a small American flag and found a soldier's grave.

My daughter planted the flag, and then I showed her how to put her hand over her heart and stand still with respect while I said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Then we prayed and asked God to take care of all the soldiers who have died, and to bless America.

It was both a spiritual and a patriotic experience. I'm so glad we did it.
