The Big Story With John Gibson
Friday, May 23, 2003
Veteran newscaster John Gibson gets to the core of the most salient issues facing America today as host of FNC's hard-hitting primetime show The Big Story with John Gibson, airing Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. ET, with expert legal analysis from Judge Andrew Napolitano and in-depth field reports from correspondent Heather Nauert.
Topics and Guests for Monday,
May 26:
Judgment at Waco, hosted by John Gibson, will air on Monday, May 26 at 5 p.m. in place of The Big Story With John Gibson.
* Feb. 28, 1993 marked the start of the longest, largest and deadliest law enforcement operation in American history.
It all began with a botched ATF (search) raid on a compound held by the sect of Branch Davidians (search) in Waco, Texas, during which the cult's leader David Koresh (search) was killed.
The ensuing 51-day-standoff between federal agents and members of the Davidians ended when the FBI decided to use tear gas to force cult members out. Eighty people, including 17 children, died in the horrific fire that then consumed the compound.
Host John Gibson and WFDW FOX affiliate anchor Richard Ray were both eyewitnesses to the events at Waco.
They'll give us the "as it happened" story, including interviews with survivors and FBI agents, plus Congressional testimony.
Who's to blame for this tragedy? And why is the answer to that question still relevent today? We'll find out...

ANy thoughts on which way John is going to go with this? Will it shed light on the misconduct, corruption and ineptness of the Clinton/Reno Justice Department, or will it be a white wash of the whole thing with the conclusion that the whole thing was inevitible.

I doubt whether even Fox will dare come out with all the details. But it could still be devastating. I watched it on Nightline while it was happening. Even with a left-wing slat it was devastating--night after night, until the building went up in flames and they abruptly got the signal to drop it like a hot potato.
There's no favorable way to spin a story like this, IMHO. So it can hardly help but indict clinton, Reno, the BATF, and the FBI.

held by?
This suggest they had taken control of sumthing by sinister or aggressive forces. The place wasn't "held." They lived there.

Those promos are written by the web site's PR people, usually the lowest-ranking people on the totem pole, if not the interns. They were probably given 20 minutes and told to "throw something together," which they did without putting any thought into it.

You have your own spin on this. The business started by rogue agents testing the limits of what they could get away with at Ruby Ridge under George Bush. When they found they could pull of atrocity without accountability they escalated their actions at Waco. Had the hammer fallen after Ruby Ridge, as it should if we had had a decent president, there would have been no Waco. Don't balme it all on Reno. The precedent was set under Bush.

The F&BI got away with murder sameo at Ruby Ridge. You ain't free if the government can kill you with impunity.

Prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom, Reno gave a speech at Brown University indicting this administration for it's rush to preemptively stike Iraq and it's failure to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means. I can remember reading an account of this speech in the local paper and feeling the sort of anger that I cannot even describe with words. Apparently Reno only endorses preemptive strikes against American citizens.

I had no idea what a "Branch Davidian" was until I saw a sign on Route 2 for "Davidian Farms." Branch Davidians, it turns out, were a splinter group of - get this - Seventh Day Adventists. Ooooooooooo dangerous! Better call in the ATF!
I would like somebost to go out and find the agents on the scene that day. The American public needs to know who was shooting these people and burning their kids.

Heather Nauert is suspect. She wanted the Iraq War campaign ribbon, but she failed and is perhaps guilty of cowerdice under fire.
She was given the assignment to interview the arab street in Amman.
It was obvious that her interviews were conducted in the hotel bar and that the interviews commenting on the arab view were seasoned lounge lizards.
No points for Heather.

It's on now. It's interesting to see that the govt. gave a camera to Koresh to shoot video with, but then did not release the video. The video is part of this show, at least parts of it. So far it's pretty neutral ... about 20 minutes in.

They just went through his cult and their beliefs. Not nice. The fact that he had multiple wives, child wives, and ordered all male followers to "turn their women over to him for impregnation". Wow,thats pretty amazing. They have some ex-members on saying some of this. I know these allegations were made at the time. Next up: the showdown.

Fox reports, we decide.
The most amazing revelation was that John Gibson now has short hair!
