Missing firefighter sought by police

Help Chicago area Freepers. My daughter and I drove around this area today trying to find this vehicle, details:

CHICAGO -- An Edison Park woman was seeking the public's help Friday in the search for her 46-year-old husband, who sent a despondent e-mail then disappeared in the middle of the night from his home.

Police were looking for David "Scotty" Welch, a 23-year Chicago firefighter who lives in the 7700 block of West Jerome Street. He drove off in his green Dodge Ram truck early Thursday morning without packing a thing.

At 2 a.m., his wife, Julie, received a call from her husband's friend, who was concerned about an e-mail he had just received. In the note, Scotty Welch reportedly said he was confused and didn't know whether he could go on.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 312-746-8365.

The truck has an extended cab and a firefighter sticker in the windshield. I will try to locate a picture of David to post. If anyone is in any Chicago area Forest Preserves this weekend please be on the lookout for this truck. I will also attempt to get the license plate again, it begins with letters and has a few numbers. David had an accident a few weeks ago and is taking vicodin for pain and his wife believes this contrubted to his depression and despondency.

Welch is 5-foot-10 and weighs 190 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and stocky shoulders. He left wearing a pair of blue jeans, a flannel shirt, hiking boots and a black vest. He was thought to be driving his hunter green Dodge Ram pickup. The truck's license plate is 9913JXB. (different license number than the last one)

Police seek firefighter missing from Edison Park

A 46-year-old firefighter has been missing from his home in the Edison Park neighborhood since early Thursday, police said.

Fire Lt. David Scott Welch, a 23-year-old veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, left his home in the 7700 block of West Jerome at 2 a.m. Thursday after sending an e-mail to close family and friends, said his wife, Julie.

Welch wrote in his e-mail that he was "very despondent" and that his life had lost its meaning, his wife said.

Welch, who works for Engine 59, suffered a work accident as he was pulling a hose during a fire three weeks ago, and he has been on medical leave since, his wife said. Pain medication made him "very tired, very down and despondent," his wife said.

Welch is 5-foot-10 and weighs 190 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and stocky shoulders. He left wearing a pair of blue jeans, a flannel shirt, hiking boots and a black vest. He was thought to be driving his hunter green Dodge Ram pickup. The truck's license plate is 9913JXB.
