Byrd Unleashes Oratorical Fury, Wins Fans by Goading Colleagues
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ^ | Wednesday, May 21, 2003 | DAVID ROGERS

Something big is happening with Sen. Robert Byrd that no one, including the West Virginia Democrat, has fully figured out.

Melding his Roman hero Cato with an old man's sheer cussedness, Mr. Byrd has thrown himself into a personal crusade chiding fellow lawmakers to stand up against what he sees as an increasingly arrogant, wartime White House. Conservatives lampoon him; "Byrd of Prey" reads a Fox News logo.

Ku Klux Klan -- which the West Virginian briefly joined as a young man and has repeatedly apologized for since.

Correct, if you consider 3 years a brief period. And if you discount continued secret mail correspondence with the Grand Kleagle years after he "quit."

Should of been printed in the nytimes. Sounds likes the Byrd's spin-machine is in full recycle-his-legacy mode.

And this coal miner's son from Wolf Creek Hollow is read aloud at theater groups by Hollywood political activists.

Just because a site receives hits, doesnt mean they support him. I wonder if the Hollyweird morons read any of the minutes from his Klan meetings.

And the NY Times has the nerve to criticize the Journal for having a "conservative bias?" The Politics and Policy page is actually very liberal.

This coot belongs to the old spoils system days. He's become one of the best advertisements for term limits to have ever come along.

But he can dictate first drafts or changes, working with a staff that has known him -- often in close quarters -- for years. "I take them and plant them in the soil like my tomato plants," he says of the relationships that have evolved. "If you live with a lame man long enough, you will learn to limp."

So he readily admits he's passing his lame-brained thoughts on to his eager, trusting, unwitting and witless staff.

The WSJ editorial page is terrific. The WSJ news reporters are full of lies.

This guy is evidently looking for Hunt's job.

The KKK, "which the West Virginian briefly joined as a young man and has repeatedly apologized for since."

Oh, sure.

Maybe the WSJ isn't lying, maybe they've just misinterpreted the facts.

The reason why so many people are visiting his website is because they couldn't believe their ears when they heard his ramblings on the Senate floor (or maybe they couldn't understand what he mumbled). At any rate they're going to the website to read more and find out if the guy is as senile as they perceived him to be.

Largely self-educated, Mr. Byrd finished law school over 10 years while in Congress -- then went back and got his college degree

So, no degree during 10 years in congress. By then I would be a doctor. I wonder if the degree is honorary.

Ku Klux Klan -- which the West Virginian briefly joined as a young man and has repeatedly apologized for rationalized and defended since.

" Mr. Byrd was amused that thousands of CNN viewers backed his position 61%-39% in an unscientific "Question of the Day" poll."

Imagine that, in a CNN poll no less!!!

Once again we are vindicated in our refusal to subscribe to the Wall Street Journal until Al Hunt and his minions are gone.

As I live and breathe, I never thought the democrats would be so delusional as to push Robert Byrd as a hero to their party. Next thing you know, they will be telling us how Gary Condit was a misuunderstood crusader for morality.

The article also fails to note that after 20 years of "apologizing" for his KKK ties, Byrd spearheaded the fillibuster of the Civil Rights Act.

The liberal facination with snake-oil salesmen is troubling to watch. We got rid of David Duke on our own. Oppose a popular Republican and quote Vergil, and the Democrats will ignore ANY past transgression and look upon you as a Statesman.

There are a lot of delusional Freepers who refuse to realize the Al Hunt influence on the so called political news section of the WSJ. This BS article is a prime example.

Thie article could have been written by Jayson Blair. Maybe he was the ghost writer for the article.

Like you I will continue my personal boycott of the WSJ until Al Hunt and his left wing influence is removed from the WSJ.

WSJ missed the boat big time.

Byrd's protege, and his choice for Senate replacement, failed miserably in his first time out for a House seat.

Byrd is being LAUGHED AT - not LAUGHED WITH!
