A furious lightsaber duel is underway. DARTH VADER is backing LUKE SKYWALKER towards the end of the gantry. A quick move by Vader, chops off Luke's hand! It goes spinning off into the ventilation shaft. Luke backs away. He looks around, but realizes there's nowhere to go but straight down.

Darth Vader: Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father.

Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!

Darth Vader: No, Luke... I am your father!

Luke: No. It can't be. That's not true. That's impossible!

Darth Vader: Search your feelings Luke... you know them to be true.

Luke: NOOoooo!

Darth Vader: Yes, it is true... and you know what else? You know that brass droid of yours?

Luke: Threepio?

Darth Vader: Yes... Threepio... I built him... when I was 7 years old.

Luke: No! ... Wait, huh?

Darth Vader: Seven years old. And what have you done? Look at yourself. No hand. No job. And you couldn't even levitate your own ship out of the swamp...

Luke: But... I destroyed your precious Death Star!

Darth Vader: But that was when you were 20! When I was 10, I single-handedly destroyed an entire Trade Federation Droid Control ship!

Luke: Well, it's not my fault...

Darth Vader: Oh, here we go... "Poor me... my father never gave me what I wanted for my birthday... boo hoo, my daddy's the Dark Lord of the Sith... Nobody loved me... waahhh wahhh!"

Luke: Shut up!

Darth Vader: You're a slacker! By the time I was your age, I had already exterminated the Jedi knights!

Luke: I used to race my T-16 through Beggar's Canyon.

Darth Vader: Oh, for the love of the Emperor... 10 years old, winner of the Boonta Eve Open... the Only human to ever fly a Pod Racer... right here baby!

Luke looks down the shaft. Takes a step towards it.

Darth Vader: I was wrong... You're not my kid... I don't know whose you are, but you sure ain't mine.

Luke takes a step off the platform, hesitates, then plunges down the shaft.

Darth Vader looks down after him.

Good evening, Canteeners! I hope you all don't mind, but I'm going to post this little note on the Foxhole thread, which I have also been known to visit. It concerns all of you who do so much to support the U.S. military in this time of war. Believe me, every word is true.

Myself and several of my fellow Sailors were shooting the breeze today, when one of the boys relayed a story from last week. Seems he and two other guys were out having a late lunch on their way home here in Jax, at a local restaurant (okay, it was Hooter's in Orange Park). As they had all been "frocked" (promoted) that day, they were in their Summer Whites, with full ribbons, badges, and Dixie Cup hats. Anyhoo, they drank a pitcher or two (or three...) and ate of the Buffalo wings. Upon requesting the check, however, they were told by the comely lass serving them that "those gentlemen over there took care of it". "Those gentlemen", it turned out, were three men in their mid-to-late forties in business suits seated across the room. My friend Dave went over to thank them, and asked why they had been so generous...the bill was near $50.00! They said, and I quote, "It's nothing compared to what YOU guys do for US. Enjoy it, and have a great day!".

Needless to say, Dave and the boys tried to thank the men, who only thanked THEM profusely.

That story alone is heartwarming, but check out what followed...

EVERY Sailor around the table when Dave related the tale came up with a SIMILAR story...one E-6 who had traveled to his home in Colorado on leave in his Dress Whites to treat his mother never had to buy a sandwich or a drink for himself, and was nearly worn out from all the handshakes and back-slaps! Another related a story of being given a first-class seat on an airline after the Stewardess learned that he was in the Navy, I myself related the wonderful outpouring of "thank yous" I recieved while visiting relatives recently...the list, it seemed was endless.

We all realized that these were NOT the isolated incidents we thought they were, but part of a...movement? Is that right?

I mean, NO Sailor there, out of about fifty, DIDN'T have such a yarn, sometimes two or three! And if we all did, how many MORE military folk did?

It might have been hard to tell here in Jacksonville, it being the major Military town it is, but it seemed that America, very quietly and dignified-like, was showing its love and support for us as it traditionally did...individually, en masse. And if WE were realizing it, then so was every Soldier, Sailor, Marine and Airman returning, and going off to , the war.

The signwaving, ugly, skinwasting traitors and protestors DON'T speak for all, or even a minority.

I'm telling this story to YOU, my FRiends, because it is YOU who have done so much to "keep tose home fires burning" for us. It is YOU who have made supporting the troops COOL with people, and it is YOU who have Kept The Faith, quietly, along with millions of other grateful Americans.

Sometimes, I'll confess, my job can get depressing. You wonder at times if those you do it for are worth it...especially when all the news shows tell you is how dumb or wrong what you're doing is, or how you're being led by idiots and power-hungry wannabe Hitlers. Thnks for showing us otherwise!

Thanks for doing what you do for us...thanks for BEING our cause.
