You know what's terrible?
The U.S.A. is supposed to be the land of the free, but when foreigners see that in the U.S.
1) There exist the toughest smoking laws in the world
2) Kids under 21 cannot have alcohol while they can be drafted, can vote
3) There is a curfew on minors
4) People don't have the right to set a weed on fire and inhale the smoke.
It really makes it hard to say with a straight face that the U.S. is in fact the land of the free. I'm sick and tired of people walking all over the consitution.

I'm so glad we're establishing a Ministry of Health on an international basis also. The Ministry of Truth said that this would happen after reccomendations from the Ministry of Peace.

However Thompson stopped short of saying the United States would ratify the pact, which aims to wean the world off a habit that kills almost five million people a year. In other words, he's going to sign it, then come home and ignore it. You can't sign away the First Amendment with an international treaty, period.

"The president is going to make a determination as to if and when he signs it... He's still reviewing it. It got up on his personal radar screen this past week, I've given him my pitch and he was quite supportive," he said. It sounds like Thompson has been smoking something and it's not made by RJ Reynolds. In one breath he tells the world he's going to support it and in another he says the President is still reviewing it. Who's in charge here?

The United Nations health agency predicts the number of people dying each year from cancer, cardiovascular disease and other conditions linked to smoking could exceed 10 million by 2020, with 70 percent of the victims in the developing worldThe lies grow by a mile every day.

70% of the population in the third world, dies whether they smoke or not.

The United States said Sunday it would fully support a global anti-smoking treaty at this week's world health meeting, startling observers by dropping its objections to the pact. Why not global Prohibition? It would be more fun.

From,
anti smoking treaty"
The text requires signatory parties to implement comprehensive tobacco control programmes and strategies at the national, regional and local levels. The text also explicitly recognizes the need to protect public health, the unique nature of tobacco products and the harm that companies that produce them cause"

OK, some explain to me what exactly is the use of a 'global treaty' on smoking and how would US participation help? Why can't these countries simply pass the smoking restrictions themselves? Right or wrong, the US already did that themselves, what's stopping those morons from doing the same. I would think that it would be less trouble than formulating an international treaty and getting all those countries to ratify it. This seems to be almost as big a waste of time as the UN.

As I say on the other puff_list threads. The smoking nazis are everywhere.
And to the smoking nazis here on FR, keep one thing in mind,
Why is it that liberals want to legalize crack yet ban smoking?

The central objection to this, IMHO, should be that any enforcment of such a treaty would render the Constitution secondary.
This is yet another challenge to the sovereignty of the United States. Bush is proving himself to be more of an internationalist than his people want the conservatives to believe.
