There isn't a single recurring Muslim character, for example, on a sitcom...

Islam isn't very funny.

OK folks, it's up to us to come up with their program schedule. I'll begin:

8:00 am - Making your own dymamite vests.
8:30 am - How to persecute other faiths.
9:00 am - Lying for Allah.

American Muslims who have nothing to do with terrorism

Individual muslims collectively comprise the pond in which muslim terrorists swim and thrive with impunity. Every American muslim has something to do with muslim terrorism in America.

Muslim Americans will celebrate and enjoy freedom of the press. Oh, yeah, and capitalism.

Funny thing is, most Muslim countries--including every Arab nation, except Israel wherein Arabs and Muslims are both minorities--don't know either of these. Then again, a large proportion of these people (all of 'em, I would hope) came to America to escape life under an assortment of ruthless despots, military dictators, terrorist ringleaders, absolute monarchs, brutal tyrants, power-crazed ayatollahs, mad mullahs, oppressive autocrats, and other miscellaneous strongmen.

an initiative to convey the truth about themselves

Conveying the "truth" is a heavy lifting task indeed. Creating a vehicle with a sectarian slant is ill suited to that task, but perhaps, with the cacaphony of voices which this great nation of ours tolerates in a way no other place on this planet does, adding such a voice is valuable in the larger scheme, however biased. It might enrich the public square, if only to put forward American Muslim issues up for debate. Other voices can decry whatever BS emanates in real time, ASAP. ASAP is a profound change by the way in the public square. BS has a shorter half life than ever, with watchdogs prowling everywhere. And that systemic change is simply marvelous, and a marvel for this old bod of the modern age.

A Muslim moderate thinks the Holocaust didn't happen. A Muslim extremist thinks that it did, and that it was a good thing.

"There isn't a single recurring Muslim character, for example, on a sitcom or drama."

What would a Muslim sitcom look like? I can just see two Muslim men talking to each other, Mohammed and Abdulah. Mohammed takes out his wallet and shows Abdulah some photos of his boys. Abdulah looks at Mohammed and says, "My, they blow up so fast these days". ;o)

"American Muslim life is, for the most part, quite similar to mainstream American life," said Hassan."

If it's so similar, then why do you need your own programming? Why do you seek to actively set yourself apart by claiming to be overlooked?

I think it's great.

If they feel they are being misrepresented, they can get their own TV show and set the record straight.. and let the free market decide if the enterprise is viable or not.

I think it's wonderful.. That's exactly the way you should do it.

No bombs, no terrorism, no demands laced with murderous threats. Just the free market and a desire to educate people and tell their side of the story.

Bravo!

"There isn't a single recurring Muslim character, for example, on a sitcom or drama"

--then again, there isn't a single recurring Southern Baptist, either. Or Morman, or Pentacostal, etc., etc.

"But for an American-born Muslim kid growing up in America, there are virtually no realistic portrayals of Muslims in dramas, sitcoms, soap operas or talk shows."

Speaking strictly for myself, I had enough realistic portayal of Muslim drama on September 11, 2001.

That's the bottom line. Yes, I know that many Muslims in this country purportedly are loyal, but I ask you, have you heard even one of these people condemn bin-Laden? If you haven't had the chance to hear from a Muslim an answer to this question, just ask one. They may love living in the US, but make no mistake about it, they will side with Islam over the US every time.

Come on people. The majority of Muslim Americans are not terrorists but in fact are great people. How do I know? I've had many pleasant opportunities to befriend many.

I ask you this - What is worse, a Muslim American, or some white trash woman who judges everyone in the name of Jesus? And don't mention anything about all these Muslims supporting terrorism...because they don't

yet pop culture images of them are scant beyond the nightly news reports chronicling the war on terrorism

If they had protested the radicals along with our efforts to fight the fundamentalists, hey, I'd have a different opinion.

What I remember about them here in the states is that we had a FBI muslim agent who refused to tape a conversation with one of the suspected fundamentalists as well as many saying they would never go to the authorities with info on another muslim. "Muslims don't betray Muslims" was the word of the day.

If the shoe fits, wear it..."

Every Islamic communications asset--including Al Jazeera--should be reduced to dust...yesterday. Including satellites and base stations.

As to this abomination...why isn't the FCC performing its duty and preventing its establishment?
