Don't you know you're not allowed to say oriental anymore? ;^)

Despite being born in Fiji, a good many Indians consider Vijay one of their own, part of the Indian diaspora.

As an aside, the assumption that Indians are either Hindi or Sikhs is erroneous. I had 2 good friends in NYC years ago who emigrated from India, working as nannies while acquiring permanent status. They were both Christians.

I really don't see the controversy, and I agree with everything Vijay said. Why shouldn't she have to qualify for the tourney like everyone else? The answer, obviously, is that she would be unable to do so. She needs the sponsor's exemption to be able to play. When she gets her ass royally kicked next week (and misses the cut by a wide margin), the people who've been making a stink about Vijay's comments - mostly people who know absolutely nothing about golf - are going to look mighty foolish.

Vijay, incidentally, is winning this week's Byron Nelson Classic by one stroke going into the final round tomorrow.

VJ doesn't want to risk getting beaten by a women. What a whimp.

LOL....Another who knows nothing about golf. First of all, he's playing next week. And secondly, he couldn't lose to her if he played blindfolded. The guy is the 5th ranked player in the world. The 20,000th ranked man (if such a ranking existed) could beat Annika with ease.

I think you had better do your research before you flame anyone else on FR. VJ himself said he didn'[t iwant to lose to a woman. I guess you don't know as much about golf as you thought you did.

Wrong. Vijay never said any such thing. Find me that quote, if you would. I see you know about as much about golf as you know about politics -- ZERO. Vijay just beat the best men in the world last week. Why would he be afraid of losing to a woman who couldn't even beat the 5000th ranked man? Go ahead, try to find me a quote where he said he's afraid of losing to a woman. You won't be able to, of course.

You will find Vijays remark here.

"I actually said if I miss the cut, I'd rather she miss the cut as well," he told reporters who were waiting for him as he came off the course. "I hope she missed the cut because I don't want to have a woman beat me."

Your are a poorly informed know it all idiot. Read more before you flame people.

I saw that interview. He said it with a huge smile on his face ....totally joking around. Anyone who believes he was serious, or that Annika could could beat Vijay even one time in a million, is a complete moron.

Luckovich is still alternating between slams on the Bush administration and golf:

Here's the latest.

But you had no idea he even uttered the words before I pointed iot out to you.

Wrong. Vijay never said any such thing. Find me that quote,

"I hope she missed the cut because I don't want to have a woman beat me."

I sure did --- I told you I saw the interview. But since those words (by Vijay) were uttered in jest, I forgot he said them. To understand what he meant and to place his words in context, one had to see the interview. ....But you're right, he did say them.
