Cleaning up is good. I never said it wasn't. The question has to do with where and when and who they are cleaning up after. The poster had a suggestion which had to do with something different, perhaps you should re-read what it said.

If you haven't figured that out yet, what can I say?

Who does your cleaning?

Where?

He doesn't care who does it, as long as they do it without bothering him about it.

Right. The original poster said:

I honestly believe that no school should have janitorial staff except for the heaviest or most challenging cleanup jobs. Kids should take turns cleaning their own schools. The benefits are beyond my ability to count.

I would have to agree. Most janitorial service consists of sweeping, mopping, wiping things down. Toilet duty and vomit on the floor, well, that could probably be left to somebody else. Even toilet duty wouldn't be a bad lesson for high school kids.

Kids at school would actually learn some responsibility. I frankly don't see why you have a problem with that.

Not my job. :-) Someone else will do it. It's not MY job.

If they are trashing their schools, they should have to live with it. Giving in to them would send a message.

Isn't it Japan that has their students do the cleaning? Either after, or before school starts, they all have chores. Sounds good to me! It gives them some pride in a clean school and an appreciation for those work is cleaning.

Ahhhh Sweeden, the home of death metal.

And you wonder what drives those Swedish kids to make such wonderful music? It's probably not the gov't subsidies to bands, it's probably the crushing atmosphere of despair created by socialism.

And an incentive not to make a mess in the first place!

I had a dream that our friend there was helping the Clintons move out of the White House. "Ah, just leave it," he advised them. "You weren't here to take care of the people's property. You were here to trash it."

That sounds more like a nightmare than a dream to me.

My whole family had a good hearty laugh at your "Not My Job Award" posting -- including our daughters aged 7 and 9. :-)
