West Wing finale..."President" Sheen invokes 25th. Hastert look-alike John Goodman takes over.

In case you all missed it, the West Wing ended its season last night, and obviously Aaron Sorkin has been smoking 'shrooms again. Sorkin has also left the show, as writer and creative force, but he's leaving his peculiarly distorted vision of political reality for the next group of writers to untangle. If you're interested, let me summarize events for you...

Putting the laughable left-wing crud aside (which I have no problem doing under the heading "Would that mine enemy had written a book"), this is one of the most tightly written, best paced shows on TV.

I'm not sure about this, but doesn't that mean, Sheen has to be off the show permanently, I'm not sure if there is a way to unrevoke the 25th.

Since there is no VP, I guess that the Republican SOH, acting under the authority of the 25th amendment, can appoint a VP of his choosing. That would mean that when the President (Bartlett) resumes power, he could be stuck with a Republican VP appointed by Goodman.

He's a moderate with right of center tendency's. He's not going to vote hard liberal, but he's probably not going to go right wing. He has voted for conservative democrats in the past, and the current senator (his buddy) Voigovitch (whatever the hell you spell his name) now.

You may have missed the best comedy show of the season. A couple of weeks ago they finally did something right. Fumbling father got ditzy daughter to shoot a guy then told her to shoot him again (she did) because he moved. Unfortunately they went back to the slapstick comedy after that.

Even the D.U.mpster children, who hate Hastert, think he looks like likable, but then again, they think he only looks the way he does so that he can "disarm people with his appearance" and then force his agenda while "seeming like a warm family uncle". Personally, he does look like, and seem like, and talk like, and act like a really really good guy, it also helps that I have all the same beliefs as him, and he's got one hell of a sense of humor.

I do remember Dick Armey's famous line now.

Dick Armey, who when asked if he had been in President Clinton's place, would he have resigned?

"If I were in the President's place I would not have gotten a chance to resign. I would be laying in a pool of my own blood, hearing Mrs. Armey standing over me saying, "How do I reload this damn thing?"

If this group of useful idiots thinks that getting rid of Barlett ... and continuing their repub bashing will get their audience back ... they, like the rest of the liberals, have refused to read the signs of the times. I watched Sports Night for a season or two until I gave up entertainment TV (except for Star Trek) altogether. It was pretty well written, though PC, too. I never even gave West Wing a chance.

I think "24" is much more realistic, even though I have never seen them showing the conventional White House sets. I think "24" is more intellectual. I have made several (half hearted) attempts to watch "West Wing", but it quickly puts me to sleep with either dogma, human-interest banality, or making token concessions to Republican views. If folks are watching it, I must be missing something, although I am not sure what...

No kidding.....My only Point was that Sorkin probably had great joy at putting that on TV as his farewell to his audience. If he can't say something negative in public ala Janeane Garofolo, (and with the backlash why would he?) he can certainly put his loathing of America into his scripts.

That's true. That's not my point. The real election is next autumn.

The new TV season of WW begins late autumn (Nov 2003), and will stretch through the winter to Spring 2004. Then the WW Season Finale. Then the reruns of that TV season from late Spring 2004 to late Autumn 2004.

So, they will have most of the upcoming real election to portray how evil Republicans are, and how an "illegitimate President" rules the White House.

Ok, let me ask again... Is Goodman portrayed as evil on the show?

He only had a few scenes in the last few minutes, walking down a hallway (bigger than life) entering the office, taking command. I got the impression he was "evil". No surprise there. But considering the circumstances and what he's "facing" in that world, I doubt he'd have smiled and gloated at ascending the Presidency.

I'm curious if next year they'll tie in the new President with the (Matt Perry) Republican Counsel (who's discovery of the VP's affair led to the VP's resignation), thus showing Republicans as devious as well.

Yeah, I'm curious about that, too. For one thing, the entire personal staff of the president would turn over. All Bartlett's pussies would be cleaning out their desks and the new Acting Prez would appoint all his own people.

I know this show's been a piece of you-know-what for the last few years, but I'm guessing that NBC has finally sensed that the public mood is not receptive to the Prime Time Bubba these days; and to survive, they will have to update their message. I think it will be great fun to see the new prez change the tone, if even only for a few episodes. The Matthew Perry character was portrayed to be rather attractive, sane and upstanding, even though the staff lefties gave him a hard time and made snide remarks about him. They came off as petty snarkers and he came off as a smart, good guy.

Rumor has it Martin Sheen is going to carpet-bag it to Ohio and run for George Voinivich's Senate seat.

That kind of garbage may work in NY, but not in Ohio.
