LEAP OF FAITH? More Like Suspension of Belief

Considering the fact that anti-Semitism is running rampant, with France’s choice of Le Pen an excellent recent example, it puzzles me as to why Noor feels piling on will help the situation now. Whereas in 1985, there was only one website spewing this AntiIsraeli hatred, today there are more than 4,000 sites devoted to the extermination of the Jews and the proliferation of the Muslim degeneracy of murder, rape, torture and extremism directed against all ”infidels” (those who choose other than the Islam way of slavery).

Um, LePen may hate jews, but he also hates muslims, and to some extent, america and everyone else, but at least he's equal oppurtunity.

I'm amazed there were any websites at all in 1985. And the only one was anti-semitic? Scandalous. It must have been French.

Poor premise. Real websites didn't really exist in 1985. Mostly, it was Lynx text browsers and then they incorporated the ability to Zmodem a .GIF or .JPG picture. When they finally automated this (so that pictures would download automatically, the modern Web was born.

Back in '85, it was more about Gopher and newsgroups and HTTP was nerdy research stuff for guys at MIT.

That wasn't the premise. It was the 4th paragraph. As far as the date, I'll let her know. These are the first 3 paragraphs of the article:

There she was, born Lisa Najeeb Halaby on 23 August 1951, to a wealthy Arab-American family, the former cheerleader and now widowed queen, being interviewed by FNC’s E.D. Hill, answering softball questions and yapping on about her good works. If she is so concerned about humanitarianism, why hasn’t her own so-wonderful country absorbed the Palestinians into her own country of Jordan? Hmm?

Hawking her book, Leap of Faith, (subtitled Memoirs of an Unexpected Life), the Queen continued the interview by saying:“The majority of the people of the region do not hate Americans”. However, the Queen failed to mention the minority of terrorists and their wealthy benefactors who are making life a living and dying hell for those who would live peacefully around the world and not just the Middle East.

It takes more than blonde bleach and tons of money to make brains but according to her own personal web site: “Upon her marriage, Queen Noor received Jordan’s Grand Cordon of the Jeweled Al Nahda, and, in 1980, the Grand Collar of Al Hussein Bin Ali in addition to state decorations from around the world. In recognition of her efforts to advance development, democracy, and peace, she has been awarded numerous international awards and honorary doctorates in international relations, law, and humane letters.” Funny, trashing the Jews doesn’t seem to me to be advancing peace in the Middle East.

From Barbara Stanley:

Oops. Should have been 1995, not 85...

Yah, we all get bloopers. Better to find out sooner than later, I say. Nice piece in most ways though. It just seems a bug crawls up my butt if I think a title is misleading or if the entire article starts with something that isn't correct. Hence, my objection. I'm glad she acknowledged it. It's actually kind of rare for a writer to do that.
