Bush Scoring Soccer Moms, Dems Making Fools of Themselves

One of the reasons Democrats are angry about this aircraft carrier landing is that the soccer moms have fled the Democrats and they're all a-tizzy over the way Bush looks in a flight suit. Lisa Schiffren, a conservative columnist, wrote a whole piece in the Wall Street Journal the other day, where she basically comes right out and says she wanted to rip that flight suit right off Dubya.

Yet, here are the Democrats making a big to-do over the carrier landing. Meanwhile, Patrick Leahy proudly displays himself in a flight suit on his own website, and not one media outlet sees fit to call attention to it or ask other Democrats about it. Matt Drudge posted it on his website and so it looks like this Drudge guy is really way ahead of everybody, but the truth is that the elite guardians of the mainstream press would see that Leahy photo and not even see the newsworthiness of it, even though they are the ones acting as willing accomplices with the Democrats on raising hell about Bush's carrier landing, which is a non-story. All that adds up to is pure, unadulterated sour grapes. The Democrats don't have one person who could pull this off with credibility, including John F. Kerry, who if I'm not mistaken, served in Vietnam. Of course, I'm being facetious. He only tells us in one out of every two statements.

The Democrats are all a bunch of Michael Dukakis, Beetle Bailey types. And why? It's not the way they look. It's that on balance, the modern Democratic Party is full of left-wing wacko groups that look at the U.S. military as the great evil, as the great threat to world peace, and they've made no bones about it. So to see a Democrat landing on an aircraft carrier in a flight suit, praising the men and women of the U.S. military just wouldn't fly in most people's minds because they know the Democrats don't believe this and it would be utter hypocrisy.

The reason it works with Bush comes back to the fact that he's genuine. To a man and woman in the U.S. military, they are honored he is their commander-in-chief and on that aircraft carrier they were thrilled that he showed up to thank them. The real story here is not that Bush did the landing. The real story is not that Bush looks good in a flight suit. The real story is that each time the Democrats criticize him for it they lose respect and they lose strength within the military ranks, which include military voters, in this country and around the world. People have not forgotten that it was the Algore campaign, i.e., the Democrats back in Florida 2000 that were doing everything they could to discount absentee overseas military ballots.

Come on folks, is having Henry Waxman the front man on this the best the Democratic Party can do? They're making fools of themselves, digging themselves an even deeper hole, and, frankly, it's a joy to see

I DO NOT celebrate A BIT at further news of the patent "dumbing down" of America, even if it gives a temporary boost to a 'good guy', at the decay of civics and informed public decision. Why cheer over ANY of this? What would the Founding Fathers think?

It goes both ways. All we need is some leftist dictator in a few years who 'looks cool' on TV in his farm jeans or what not, to stroll in to the White House and lock up millions of uninformed Americans' votes, then proceed to enjoy dismantling our freedoms one after the other.

The soccer moms swooned over Clinton's big nose and blow dry haircut and maybe even his bent ______, and look what it got us in eight years.

May I just say not to get too upset over this phenom. It's not just the flight suit or jeans on the ranch. It's that he exhibits an air of capability and command of what he's doing while he happens to be wearing the suitable attire.

With clinton you had the fake capability (his supposedly "brilliant" brain which I contend is a photographic memory with admittedly high, but cunning, intelligence).

Now the authentic is being compared to the fake and it is recognized for what it is. Really, it does go beyond appearance. For most, anyway.

I have a good friend who relies absolutely on the way looks affect her mind. She will not put forth any mental effort to weigh issues. She listens but the final measure is from her gut attraction.

She swears She didn't vote for the vile one but I doubt it. She is so ashamed she will not make a public admission that hormones got the best of her.

I'm just following along on the thrust of the article. It's fine that women swoon over men they find handsome and appealing. It's just that when someone links political momentum to something as transparent as sex appeal, it's not a cause for celebration.

Kudos to you, you have your work cut out for you. My personal experience with this subset of the voting block isn't flattering. They tend to be pretty emotional, and react to issues in an almost childlike way (not really childish, but childlike).

I worked with a woman, a classic soccer mom type who worked in my law office. She was passionately 'against guns,' though couldn't keep up with even the most basic conversation about the topic. She had deep reservations about the Afghan campaign against Al Queda, as she didn't want to get them mad which would lead to an attack on the USA. Needless to say, I didn't think her brain was wired properly.

She was a classic Clinton/Gore supporter. She couldn't tell you why exactly - it had something to do with the economy, which was 'great.' When the dot.com bubble burst, it was Goodnight Irene. Her 401k was deeply devalued, and she was left bewildered and confused, though again, she couldn't articulate why.

In my original post I painted a bit of an exxagerated picture, for humorous effect. But it does represent a legit problem - a failue of citizenship on the part of many people. If someone looks into an issue and researches it, and comes to a thoughtful conclusion I don't agree with, that's fine. But to base political allegiance to people because of a flight suit (he's strong!), a lip bite (he cares!), or being a rascal (oh he's a bad boy!) is about as brain dead as it gets.

I'm a man, and I like goodlooking women. But I wouldn't vote for a sexually appealing woman because of her looks. Further, if she was on my side of the political spectrum, but I had no faith that she had a genuine grasp of the issue, I wouldn't support her. I would not uimpute stuff like sensitivity or compassion to her character if she looked pensively and bit her lip. I can't imagine thinking any other way.

I'm pretty conservative and was a lifelong NYC resident before leaving in late 2001. In my last NYC election, I held my nose and voted for Mark Green (D). Why? It was clear to me that Bloomberg was the worst kind of RINO. His proximity to Rudy (who I liked) didn't help him a bit with me. His brain-dead hypnotic mantras ("I think NYC needs...a businessman!') left me cold, but it amazed me to see people who should have known better parroting them. When I would ask them to articulate, they had no idea what they were saying, or why.

So that mentality bothers me. Good luck to you and all the GOP Soccer Moms! Just understand where I am coming from - in no way would I offend you or anyone who has an original thought in their head.

It was. She was greatly influenced by and enamored with Saul Alinsky, the quintessential leftist. Her entire political philosophy is vintage Alinsky.
