Text of Gov. Bob Wise's statement released Monday by his office: "Several weeks ago, I had to do the toughest thing I have ever done - tell my family I had not lived up to their trust, expectation and love. I was not faithful to my family. I knew it was wrong, and now I must take full responsibility. "I apologize deeply to the people of our state for my actions. In my private life, I have let many people down.
"I believe in accountability. I also hope one day for forgiveness, but I know that forgiveness must be earned.
"This is a very personal issue for my family, and I ask for privacy during this time. I particularly ask that the privacy of my wife and children be respected."

Any chance of knocking him off in '04 or does he enjoy the same level of job security as Byrd/Rockerfeller?
To: republicanwizard
It is a good thing he is a democrat or else we'd have to hear all that crap from the left wing media about stepping down, resigning, etc. Woah, imagine if this had been Bob Bennett, for example!! So, we'll hear nothing from the house hands on the fully segregated Congressional Black Caucus, certainly not from Kleagle Bird or his night riders, and nothing from ABCCBSNBCCNNBBC or the New York Times.
Why else would a dem run for public office (well, except for all the Chines, union, and Hollywood cash) if it wasn't for getting some from the young honeys who work in the same office. It is a wonder that the fairies don't demand their share of dem office holders (well, besides Barney).

Pretty near...In West Virginia, the word "Incumbant" where there isn't a term limit is synonymous with "Back up the U-Haul and unload, we're here till the hearse comes to get us".

It routinely switches hands between the parties. We have a great chance of knocking him off, provided we can find the right candidate. Shelly Moore Capito, perhaps? Though I don't know if I could stomach the biggest jerk on the planet, Jim Humphries, finally winning that Congressional seat. I'd rather have Wise stay as governor.

Gingrich, Hyde, Livingston....what is it with Republicans?
Better not go back further to Baumann.
My point is that this behavior knows no party. There are enough real and important differences that one need not go here.

Forgiveness can never be earned. It is a gift. TRUST needs to be earned.
To: RJCogburn
Gingrich and Livingstone had the common sense not to run for political office. As for Hyde, I think they tripped him up on an affair he had in 1912, or when he was six, or something utterly silly that would eliminate every Democrat around, and Teddy Kennedy a dozen times over.

Gingrich, Hyde, Livingston....what is it with Republicans? Nice try. Gingrich and Hyde both resigned in disgrace s a result of their schnanagans.
When republicans get caugh, they pay the price. Dems, for the most part, do not.

While such behavior by a Republican, when revealed, effectively ends the elective career, for a Democrat, it is simply polishing up the old resume. Or maybe just polishing up the old knob....
A man's got NEEDS, don'cha know?

What part of "Thou shalt not commit adultery" do these people (Dems and Republicans) not understand? Sheesh!

Rob Capehart, Jay Wolfe and Sarah Minear are potential Republican gubernatorial candidates, although some here have expressed the desire that Jay run for Secy of State or U.S. House of Representatives. Vic Sprouse is thinking about it, but I think he'll stay in the Senate. I hope Shelley stays in the Congress.
BTW, a previously posted thread on the topic of Gov. Wise's adultery is here

I was not faithful to my familyI guess Mrs. Wise doesn't qualify as "family?"

How about socialists, communists, independents, green party, and all other political parties that have members of the human race as it's members.
