Is this going to be for all the platforms....PS2 please? The vicious rumor mill has it that the reason the poor PC crowd has been forced to wait (original release date of July 31st) is to have this ported to the X-box (and other) console systems. IdSoftware is not stupid, money is good. I'm sure that this will have a huge fanfare, and will likely be available on just about every system out there.

Who cares about directx, it's the operating system that gets sold with the box that your teenagers and college kids will be all over you to buy. that's if you don't go get it for yourself.

You are an original Doom fan. Ah, but are you an original Castle Wolfenstein fan? This actually came out before Doom, and as far as I know was the very first 3D first-person shooter. This was the early 1990's, and we would invite friends over to play it who had never seen such a thing. Some of my friends would get sick, because they were unused to the 3D persepctive. Neat stuff.

I still find it amusing that high-end graphics cards cost more than some complete systems. You are using the term "complete system" rather loosely :) To me a system is not complete if the video card is so so :>
To: bmwcyle
My first video card was Oak Vga 256k in my 286. :>

Did the aliens transport through a teleporter and I missed it. This is a fantasy game, not a couple of screwed up kids with a lack of parental control.

Already got the CPU upgraded to 2500+ @ 333Mhz
Now I have to upgrade my GForce2 Ti 64 DDR to a GeForce4 TI

Mkaes me wonder if they'll release a 64-bit version for AMD's new procs. That could seriously rock.
I wonder how long it'll take the hackers out there to get ahold of a pre-release or demo version and pop it out on Kazaa...

fugit that. Doom was too cool over modem playing wads you downloaded from Compuserve's doom bulletin board. Phoebos something or another was cool in DM!
Duke Nukem death match was ever more fun.

Upgrade the CPU to a 400FSB AMD +3000 with a nVidia FX 5900. OCZ 512 MB PC3200 memory.

You are an original Doom fan. Ah, but are you an original Castle Wolfenstein fan? Oh yes, I certainly was, not only that, but I played the original Castle Wolfenstein on an Apple II+ computer! 2-d, no color, very crappy sound, but it was cute/fun!
I sometimes got/get sick playing 3d games like this too, especially after many hours. My brother and I call it "getting Doomed".

You're referring to Wolfenstein 3D which came out in 1992. The original Castle Wolfenstein dates from 1981 for 8-bit Apple ][ and Commodore 64.

Holy Retractions, Batman, Wolfenstein came out for the Apple ][ in 81, but the C64 in 83.

in id's offices in a nondescript two-story professional building in a Dallas suburb. If anyone is interested, they're in Mesquite near the corner of TownEast and 635. This "Nondescipt" building is the tallest building in town and completely black. I had a problem with playing by moden so I and a friend went over there to try to figure it out. One of the game designers, can't remember which of my heroes it was, told me I had the wrong version and he handed me the correct one. No problem.
A blown up copy of the building was featured in the rival "Duke Nukem" game. Those guys are in Garland, which is just north of Mesquite.

I had just got the board a year ago so I opted out of upgrading to the 400FSB - overclocking is always an option though!
AMD 2500+ @333Mhz FSB, 512MB PC2700, ATA 133, SB Live, GForce2 Ti 64 DDR!
How do you like the nVidia FX line?

After hours we used to make Doom .wad files of our floors in the office building. Fun going into the boss' office and there was this big gnarly looking alien thing. :)
