Lawyers are far more dangerous than oreos.

Ha ha, when I first saw the headline I thought Oreos were being banned because they were politically incorrect!

I had the exact same thought! My first reaction was to assume that Jesse Jackson was somehow involved.

Dittos. I stopped using margarine some time ago. I'm actually glad to see some attention focused on trans-fats. I don't like the lawsuit route, but I hope it will curtail some of the use of trans-fats. Common sense tells me they have to be bad for your body. Everybody you meet these days talk about their high colesterol and I'm one of them. I keep refusing to take the meds for it and it makes my doctor crazy, but I still think I can bring it down with diet and exercise. I try to stay with the God diet. If God didn't make it I don't eat it.

I agree with Maven, the lawsuit is ridiculous but trans fats are bad news. We're a recently switched olive oil, butter only house as well. And my husband and I have cut WAY back on the carbs and feel much better for it. My family has a history of HBP, heart disease and type 2 diabetes so it's an early investment.

On the low carb note (and lipidemia for that matter), my mom, who is type 2, has been on Atkins induction for about a month and her last drs appt showed her triglycerides reduced to normal levels (down 50 points), her cholesteral in great shape and her sugar well under 120. She says she feels great, better than she has in years, her fingernails are extremely strong, skin looks great in general, and her carb urges are gone. Oh and she is off the oral meds for her diabetes and cholesterol. She asked her dr at the appointment about doing Atkins and she said, how can I argue with your chart?

Nothing wrong with a little butter. No trans fat in real butter.

What do you mean a "little" butter? The way I look at it the perfect baked potato (x-tra large Idaho with crunchy, crispy skin and light, fluffy inside*) is God's way of letting us eat 1/4 lb of butter at one sitting.

Yeah, I know, I know...but what? Like you're going to eat one of these everyday or something?

*[350 degree for 80-90 minutes depending on size of potato]

like everyone, i eat foods that i should not. but on the whole, i monitor what i eat.

i bicycle, and i walk a minimum of 40 staircases a day. to compensate for some foods, for example, the day before yesterday i had 3 albertsons' oatmeal cookies--they're overly sweet imo, but i did 80 staircases afterwards.

the other day at carl's jr i saw a porker chick pig out at the salad bar on at least 1 cup of thousand island on her salad, and that was in addition to a burger with the works, and fries!

it's disgusting.

and you're saying that one should not notice all of these doorway-challenged people?

the u.s. health care system, already disfunctional, will implode in about 5 years.

I wonder how this stuff affects type two diabetics and people with triglyceride problems and lipidemia.

It's poison for those people, but the point is, if anyone with these problems is remotely interested in taking responsibility for their own health, they should know it, and avoid it. It's been public knowledge for years. There is also evidence that deep-frying can produce fatty acids (and worse) with even the so-called "healthy oils."

I've got a friend with both problems, but he routinely meets people who feel that if they simply scarf up some medication(s) routinely shoved at them by a doctor who could care less about nutrition, they have carte blanche to eat their way to an early grave, if they don't die from the side effects of medication first.

It all boils down to taking responsibility for oneself -- something that liberals think they can legislate, and lawyers consider a cardinal sin.

Read my lips: SHAME ON YOU! The way you describe a person who has, in your opinion, too much high fat, high calorie salad dressing in prejudical. Maybe it was the low fat, low calorie version and maybe not as much as you describe.

I can remember about 15 years ago the holier-than-thou health nuts were urging everyone to take the butter and lard out of cookies and crackers and replace with margerine and other trans-fat products. Nabisco was one of the longest holdouts, and they were urging boycotts of Nabisco products. Finally Nabisco complied, and now it has been proven that these other substitutes are worse than the original fats.

I've had a weight problem all my life, but I'd hardly call myself a porker! Being born with a serious digestive disorder and medication whose primary side effect is weight gain is no picnic. People can be obese from medical conditions. Calling people names like you just did is making my blood boil! You have no compassion or understanding of the obesity problem at all.

yeah, right!

i was overweight myself until one day i decided, it's what you put in your mouth, and how much you exercise.

most overweight people cannot blame their condition on medical circumstances, as you report.

i'm fed up with the doorway-challenged people that blame this or that for their excesses.

believe me, the u.s. health care system, as you're aware, not in the best condition now, will IMPLODE in the near future. (excluding a breakthrough in an "obesity drug", by the pharmaceuticals.)

i had a college nurse tell me that she regularly sees teens and 20's-aged students with blood sugars of 600+. she's appalled. normal is 70-120.

"adult onset" diabetes has migrated down to people in their 20's, teens, and now even children. increased heart attacks, strokes, blindness, and amputations are the result of this disease. watch in 5 years or so, and the politicians are going to be screaming bloody murder when the results of this fattening up of america hits the health care system!

the facts are people cannot eat what's advertised on tv and lead sedentary lives.
