Gay Rights Group: Pro-Family Republicans are 'Hysterical'

Commenting on the recent conservative criticism of an apparent Republican cave-in to demands of the Human Rights Campaign -- a gay lobbying group who recently met with Republican National Committee Chairman Marc Racicot -- a spokesman for the group insisted that the furor is much ado about nothing.

"I think conservative leaders are acting in an hysterical manner -- that the Chairman of the RNC simply came to speak with us -- he was well-received and we appreciated his visit and I think that they are making a lot of noise over nothing, in essence," HRC official David Smith told NewsMax.com.

Asked if HRC disagrees with pro-family advocates’ fears that the Republican Party might get behind a gay marriage proposal, Smith said "Well that’s something that we’d like to see -- I don’t anticipate that happening any time soon but certainly treating gay people fairly under the law is something that we work towards -- something that we work hard for."

When asked if the pro-family Republicans’ fears were off base, Smith repeated his belief that "they’re acting in an hysterical manner and quite frankly irrationally. The Human Rights Campaign is a thoroughly respected organization in Washington on both side of the aisle. Republicans and Democrats court our support. We offer our support to members of Congress in both the Senate and that House that support our issues, both Republicans and Democrats. We supported a number of Republicans in the last election…"

Smith added that conservatives’ "continued insistence that we are a radical pressure group is just nonsense."

Republican Party might get behind a gay marriage proposal

I have no problem with meeting with homosexuals and treating them fairly. I think the Texas sodomy case is ridiculous and not the government's business. The idea of legally recognized 'gay marriage' is equally ridiculous. I am unequivocally opposed to the idea.

Having said that, it seems to me the idea of marriage should be a 'contract' between the husband on one side and the wife on the other. Instead, it is one with the husband and wife on one side and the government on the other. Thus, the idea of legally recognized homosexual marriage becomes possible.

A classic example of transferring your own foibles onto your opponent. For a case-study in hysteria, see the reaction of the Homo-promo lobby to Rick Santorum's statements.

Conservatives are simply calmly informing the GOP higher-ups that if they continue pandering to the 2%, they may lose their 70%.

Marriage by definition involves a man and a woman:
anything else is against God. This small group of
deviants need extensive psycho-therapy!

Two different issues present.
There is no right to privacy in the US Constitution,
and that whole area of criminal laws
really left to states. So the Supreme Court
should not strike down the law.

However, Government at any level should
not try to regulate behavior between
two consenting adults with no children
involved inside a home.

So Texas should get rid of the law,
but it should left to Texas to do
it not the US Supreme Court.
