Bob Jones University Won't Welcome Kerry

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has said he would speak at Bob Jones University and would "challenge the university on some of its views," according to his campaign.

A school spokesman made it clear Friday that an invitation would not be forthcoming.

"Is he crazy?" Jonathan Pait asked. Any politician, Republican or Democrat, "would be inviting media scrutiny" similar to what happened to George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential race, the spokesman said.

Last weekend, as the Democrats gathered in South Carolina for the first debate, Kerry was asked if he would be willing to speak at the university. Kerry said he would, a response his campaign described as a "spontaneous but a serious answer."

Questioned Friday, school officials said no invitations have made to the nine Democratic candidates although President Bob Jones III has said he would consider inviting Democrats.

The Massachusetts senator "would accept an invitation to speak — and challenge the university on some of the beliefs that it has that don't belong in our society," said campaign spokesman Robert Gibbs. Kerry "wouldn't go to bash, but would certainly go to challenge the university on some of its views."

But Pait said that any agenda that includes criticism of the school would cause it to "roll up the welcome mat. Why would we invite someone to come and speak for the purpose of re-enforcing the misrepresentations that have been generated about us?"

In February 2000, Bush spoke at the private Christian fundamentalist university at a time in which the school banned interracial dating and included anti-Roman Catholic material on its Web site. The school has since dropped the dating ban but still maintains material questioning Catholicism on its Internet site.

Bush came under fire for the visit but defended it. He later wrote Cardinal John O'Connor of New York to apologize.

Kerry has questioned Attorney General John Ashcroft for receiving and honorary degree from the Greenville school.

"Of all the presidential candidates on the Democratic ticket, there aren't many that share our ideology," Pait said. Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman 's social views "would be the closest" to those taught at the school, he said.

Bob Jones should not invite Kerry. He would just use the oppurtunity to ridicule the school to gain popularity in the Rat Primaries. The media would eat Kerry's lecture up. A lose lose situation for BJU. If Bob Jones should invite any Democrat in the race they should invite Lieberman. Lieberman has some limited ethical standards, and might receive an interested polite audience.

I think there is a better chance of finding a foot of snow in Hell, than he has of getting an invitation to speak there.

Bob Jones U *should* invite Kerry, in fact, roll out the Red Carpet, take plenty of pictures and have him shaking hands with ol' Bob Jones III himself. THEN make sure he's booked for the night at some nearby hotel.

No matter what he says there, it becomes a win-win. The Republicans have pictures of Kerry shaking hands at Bob Jones University (gasp!) if he becomes the nominee *and* he'll be breaking the boycott about giving any business to South Carolina, thus angering the NAACP, Operation Push and all the black racists.

Should increase Ralph Nader's vote total by millions as well as taking one of the idiot media's attacks on Bush clean off the table.

lieberman's ethical standards cannot be seen with the Hubble Telescope.

lieberman is a democrat. He has no ethics, principles, or scrupples. If he only had one principle or scrupple, he could not be a democrat.

I could care less if BJU kicked the Pope out on his rump that's the least of my worries. Right now I'm concerned about really the necessary and this other BS can sit on the backburner for awhile. It appears to me that none of these wanting to run for president are not really getting in touch with us about our truest concerns. I wish this 'eye-poking, he did it momma not me' mess would stop and someone really talk'n the talk and walk'n the walk would please step forward NOW.I have a few questions. What is Kerry's true motive for wanting to go there? Who is he wanting to coerce, by this act, on his side and really will it help our nation gain more jobs, end this we gotta buncha suckers at the gas pump, and the necessary concerns for making America's economy get on the right track?

Oh. no. Democrats are not interested in any of that. What they want are the perks of power - the ability to hand our country over to our enemies while making themsleves rich with sleazy campaign money and book deals. The hot and cold running interns is another perk that Clinton has showed them how to do. While, all the time, being lionized as a saint by the liberal media who will defend whatever misdeeds they can't ignore altogether.

And if they can loot Air Force One on their way out of office, hey, they'll do that too.

What motivated Capone to want to run Chicago?

Let's see if I get this right: Kerry is going there to question their intelligence, their moralities, their patriotism, their ideologies on the treatment of man, but he is not going there to bash them. Oh, I understand......uuuhhhh......I think......I hope......I don't......

Let him speak....if he can’t justify his opinions, (and he can’t)...refute him in public and , as usual, claim victory
