I would be skeptical, except in watching his HBO 1-hour special, he had jibes about gun-owners and some (though not many) conservative positions. But overall it was an attack on liberalism that was pretty funny. He was really hot on education and the teachers' unions.

No. I did not like him on MNF, specifically because his references were too intellectual (this coming from a university professor!).
Miller was too much with Al. Sometimes it was like Al didn't know whether the joke had its punchline yet or not. To tell the truth, my favorite football color guy---and he didn't last real long---was Bob Trumpy at NBC.

Dennis Miller, like a lot of us, is a work in progress. 9/11 had a profound effect on him, and it ripped the fabric of his carefully constructed liberal canopy that had begun to unravel in the Clinton years. I'm reading I Rant, Therefore I Am, which he wrote 5 years ago, and you can see the shift already taking place. Given time, I think he'll come around on abortion and the Second Amendment as well.

Does the name "Mort Saul" ring a bell. BTW, Mr. Saul is 76 now. Seems like y'day.

I assume we all go through changes in our lives. Liberal to Conservative has to be a very important one.

I think they do a fine job of that all by themselves... Ha,ha

We remember Dennis Miller doing standup in a good looking suit and his topic was the Airline. He was really, really funny. I don't know when this was but maybe back in the late 60's? He was and still is...really good. Sharp as a tack and right on.

Exactly. Bottom line they may not have liked what the President did or said but...they did their jobs unlike today where they spew nothing but hatred.
They all invoke JFK's name into their politics but believe me...this is NOT the party of JFK not by a LONG SHOT!!! The Dems are so predictable...they think they can bring out Cariline Kennedy to speak at their convention and that everyone will just go ga-ga. Nothing agains Caroline. I think she has done a fine job with her marriage and her children and her privacy. I remember seeing her on TV holding hands with her mother during JFK's funeral. It was very sad but thanks to her mother, she and her brother grew up to be fine human beings but unfortunately for John Jr. his life ended much too early along with his wife and his wife's sister. Very tragic.
I just don't think Caroline should allow herself to be used by the Dem party and they should be ashamed to call on her. I think JFK would think she was being used too. However, that is her choice and her freedom to do so and while I respect her she probably feels a deep obligation to help these poor floundering souls whenever she can. That said: Once again...this is NOT the party of JFK.

Yes, Miller was terrific on Leno the other night. And did you notice Jay applauding some of the comments as if he may actually have AGREED with them???? If that was true, amazing.....

I worked for a man once who said "everyone's a Democrat until they get a little money." I loved that line and have witnessed that change from liberal to conservative in a number of people I've known who built up bank accounts as they aged.

Actually the funnist line he had was about the Democrat debate.
He said (I am Paraphrasing) He hadn't seem a worse starting 9 since the 62 Mets.
But anyhow I have been a big fan of Dennis Millers for a long time and I don't see any change in his posititions now. In the past I would have never classified him as a Liberal, OK he was and is not what you would call a "True" conservative but he was always what you would classify as a Libertarian-Republican. Actually I remember one of his HBO shows in the 1990s (I am at a lost at what exact year) where the subject was the Death of Liberalism. Bret Butler (who thankfully has vanished off the face of the Earth) was his guest

Ronald Reagan was a very liberal democrat AND the only union president to ever be president. After WW2 the IRS destroyed him financially.
Reagan then began to examine his beliefs and use logic to solve political problems, instead of following the brain-dead Hollywood morons. (Nothing's changed in 60 years)

It's Mort "Sahl" -- and yes, he was quite funny in his day. He was able to see the humor/idiocy in the left, even if that was where he usually was. Same with Jules Feiffer, the cartoonist.

"It's Mort "Sahl""
You know, I knew that didn't look right when I wrote it but I had just gotten out of the hosp. from gall bladder surgery and really didn't have my brains untied from behind my back.
Thanks for the kind correction.

What are you saying? "Maher gave a national forum to conservatives when none existed..."
Maher & 3 other liberals invited a lone conservative so the 4 liberals could skewer the conservative. Thats what I saw & I stopped watching pretty quickly.

Miller correctly pointed out that party affiliation is as difficult to change as religion. He implied that the reason that Hollyweird is so RAT is because the residents migrated there from RAT areas, NYC jews mainly, and don't change their affiliation because of loyalty to their parents.
His best line was " I haven't seen such a miserable lineup since the 62 Mets." Speaking of the 9 RAT wannabees.

"If you think about...working comedy clubs with its assortment of drunks and hecklers really prepares you for the "war" that can be political satire. "
You know, you are really on to something there. Seriously, who is quicker on their feet and better at running a sword through an enemy with a calm smile than an experienced comedian? No one else I can think of.

That's why when a father given his 12 year old a $100 bill to throw in the river, the kid does it. But, 20 years later when the father asks his now adult child for a $20 bill and then he throws it in the river, his kid will be shocked and may even jump in after it.

He may just have tapped into the "truth"; humor is only funny if there is an element of truth in it. Certainly his current jokes reflect what's happening today. Whether he actually has those convictions is not important to me.
