Hey, Flyboy! Women voters agree: President Bush is a hottie!

I had the most astonishing thought last Thursday. After a long day of hauling the kids to playdates and ballet, I turned on the news. And there was the president, landing on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, stepping out of a fighter jet in that amazing uniform, looking--how to put it?--really hot. Also presidential, of course. Not to mention credible as commander in chief. But mostly "hot," as in virile, sexy and powerful.

Great article! The best part IMO, is the last comment about Laura being the only one to really know about the Pres. So refreshing. I don't have to worry about this President behaving in ways that I then have to try to explain to my daughter.

Being a parent is challenging enough. I don't need the sexual abominations of the Commander in Chief adding to that.

The next time they're showing footage of John Edwards, let me tell you something to watch for.

It was the day he announced he was running for president..at his home in N. Carolina. He emerges from his fine new home and walks through a white wooden gate.

The gate is what cracks me up every time I see it. On top of the gate there are two big wooden figures of squirrels....facing each other, holding a big acorn between them! In the face of the gate are cutouts of oak leaves.

Ugggghhhh! It's so....so......so.....country!

Well, I suppose that image could be worse - imagine......... pink flamingos or those cheap plastic deer statues......... :-).

I do have to laugh - the "country" image with the "gargoyle" squirrels guarding the gate is definitely apropos.

Nope and I think he has hip displasure/ suffers from the results of childhood ricketts/ affects the bowlegged gait of an old timey cowboy, or some such. I cringe everytime I see him walk.

I played back that Fox clip of him walking across the deck of the Lincoln and looked at it carefully - he doesn't have an unusual walk at all. The only notable things I can see are that he habitually leads slightly with his left hip (but everyone does with one hip or the other), and on the follow through his knees don't flex as much as most people's which makes his walking gait look very slightly stiff (shifting side to side). He doesn't toe out or in, his knees are aligned properly, and his feet roll through from heel to toe as they should.

A guy can't run as much as he does and have any serious orthopedic problems. (As far as my qualifications go, I hold a certificate in dance from my university - - which involves the study of body mechanics and injuries, esp. to the lower extremities - - and I have been wringing my hands over gaits and lameness in horses for 30 plus years.)

But even if he limped like a spavined 20-year-old nag with navicular and post-laminitis syndrome, I'd still vote for him. And I don't think he looks sexy -- he just looks strong and confident. Maybe people have forgotten what a manly man looks like?

If I were to do a search, how many posts would I find about how repulsive is Hillary Clinton, physically? Not that I wouldn't agree, but it is certainly relevant to 99% of the male posters here on FR, and I never hear from huffy fellows about how looks don't matter and women are so dumb for caring about then. Actually, I never thought she was all that bad-looking, for your average fiftyish gal.

What we have here is a case of FR male jealousy passing itself off as intellectualism. "Why don't you care about policy instead of looks?" Give me a break--

Because we don't get great-looking things to watch that often--as simple as that. And he wouldn't look as good as he does if he didn't also do great things. This is all tied up with the roller-coaster of national emotion since 9/11--and he's standing out there on the landing looking like America Personified. Of course, it'll stir the blood...

Today, most previous presidents would NEVER get elected. Heck, they most probably would never even make it through a primary and into being a candidate. Lincoln? John Adams ? Hoover ?

I'll have you know that my first three crushes as a little girl were Johnny Cash, Spock from StarTrek, and Abraham Lincoln. And they all stemmed from what I (thought I) knew about their characters. I am not swooning over Bush's politics because of his looks. I'm beginning to swoon over his looks because of his politics. Although he's still a little too centrist and accomodating to me and I wish he'd get a little meaner with the international community.

I worry about him too. I saw his photo and just went "uh oh." We need to find out he beats his wife or something.

These shallow remarks about "looks" are just as embarrassing when spoken by a Republican women as is was by Democrat women with Clinton in the 1990's.

there it goes again. That fragile male ego. Some guys here can't get enough of posting pix of Ann Coulter and the Fox News babes, but the moment women turn their attention to a goodlooking man, especially one as honorable as our CINC, some men go nuts. It was quite obvious some guys were feeling a little less manly after Pfc. Lynch was rescued from her ordeal. Now, they see what a real man looks like and it's a fact that very few men measure up. So they put down the women who are happy that the president did so well. Unbelievable. I think the president is quite sexy, in a respectful way. I don't lust after him, but his personality, demeanor, character, everything, make him sexy. And most women find the substance of a man sexy, rather than his looks.

Has to do with Charlotte Church being too chubby to play Christine in POTOpera...we see lots of pics of this scrawny, flat-chested somebody (post 24) with lots of prominent ribcage...sure, the guys on FR don't care about *looks*--they care about talent and policy!

Men love mostly with their eyes, scientists say. But when we gals actually find something worth watching, the fellows suddenly turn blue-nosed?

But, I still think ( know ! ) that females who vote for a candidate, because they " think he's cute/sexy/a hottie ", shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I'll take any edge we can get. The other side gets votes for handing out cigarettes, bussing homeless to the polls, and playing bingo with them. Bush has the WHOLE package. Conservative, compassionate, an effective leader, a man in every sense of the word.

Agreed! I guess I never even realized what a nice-looking guy W was until election night. We were watching the returns with a group of college students (heavily Republican--only one Dem in the bunch and he left early). A lot of the ladies realized that he was cute in a funny sort of way. I have told my husband that the reason many women find him attractive may not necessarily be his looks, but the fact that he is a manly man and not some girly wimp. He exudes confidence and honesty--kind of like a John Wayne type in the White House!

Repeal women's suffrage AND raise the voting age back up to 21 ! I would gladly give up my right to vote, since so many females, who vote becuase of how a candidate looks, would no longer be voting either. :-)

Then how would you explain the soccer moms, whose demographic is above the age of 21?

I'd rather see and hear the candidates records on their policies and see how they can handle the pressure of "measuring up" to the standards that have now risen, rather than the x42 image and soundbite and absolutely no substance or conviction of their decisions.

And, for the record, if getting a woman to notice someone based on looks makes them look further into the issues they support, then how have we, as conservatives, gone awry?

Like it or now, this is the media century, and how you carry yourself in print, TV, radio, and internet media is important as the issues that the candidates espouse. You see how easily it was manipulated by x42., So how is it wrong for the President to present such an image of perceived power?
