WASHINGTON (CNN) -- After nine hours of deliberations, the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday night emerged with a tax bill that largely resembles the agreement reached a day earlier among committee Republicans.
In a 12-9 vote, primarily along party lines, the committee approved a 10-year, $438 billion tax bill. Arkansas Democrat Blanche Lincoln, up for re-election in 2004, voted with committee Republicans for final passage of the bill.

Tom Daschle admonished: "The bill before us would not encourage more jobs; it would discourage them." if the bill would hurt America, tommy would have been all over it like ted kennedy on the 21st amendment

I love Tom Daschle's admonishment. LOL
He is irrelevant. I hope he gets defeated in 2004.

All of this federal money going to states, especially "matching funds" for various projects, is bad juju. It's like crystal meth to these local politicians.

One exceedingly unpopular measure with Breaux: a $32 billion tax increase on persons working overseas, who under current law enjoy an $80,000 income exemption. = REPUBLICAN SENATE VOTES FOR TAX HIKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note that this is nearly $90 billion OVER what the Senate was supposedly going to be limiting itself to ($350 billion).
The House has it at $550 billion. We'll probably see it hit the $500 billion range, which will be about 70% of what we wanted ($726 billion) by a rough guesstimate.

Take whatever The Dasshole says, spin it around 180 degrees, and you've got the truth.
The fact that The Dasshole's against it is all the proof I need that it's a good bill.
