Edwards' campaign slates Atlanta events
By MATTHEW C. QUINN The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina brings his Democratic presidential campaign to Georgia on Friday, starting with a visit to Atlanta's Grady High School.
Edwards will use his appearance at the Midtown school to highlight his support for education.
On Saturday, he will address the annual Human Rights Campaign dinner downtown. The group promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights.
Edwards has visited Atlanta many times in recent months. But like those of other candidates, his previous visits have focused on fund-raising and private meetings.
Jeff DiSantis, executive director of the state Democratic Party, said Edwards' visit will be the first by any of the nine candidates "to get any attention."
Georgia will hold its presidential primary March 2, the same day as eight other states, including California and New York. That could diminish its importance. But Edwards, who along with Sen. Bob Graham of Florida is one of two Southerners in the Democratic race, plans to compete.
"Georgia is an important state for this campaign," said Jennifer Palmieri, Edwards' spokeswoman. "Georgia is a state he can do well in."
Palmieri said Edwards will visit a computer lab at Grady and talk about his support for education, including the importance of the Internet and after-school learning programs.
Edwards, a trial lawyer, will address the annual meeting of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association later Friday before flying to North Carolina to deliver a commencement address.
He will return Saturday night to deliver the keynote address at the Human Rights Campaign dinner in downtown Atlanta.
Edwards does not support same-sex marriage, Palmieri said, "but has respect for the organization and the work they do to promote civil rights and combat discrimination."

What if someone gave a campaign and noooooobody came.
Easy: Former Clinton White House whore, with a VERY big mouth. She then was shoved off on the DNC when her Master left office, until she made the unbelievably imbecilic choice to join up with Edwards.
She considers herself to be a very funny person, and takes great delight in things like issuing press releases that are nothing but Letterman-style Top Ten lists making fun of George W. Bush. And of course, they - like all her "comedy" bits - are deeply unfunny. Cringeworthy, in fact. And I'm not just saying that because she always uses her "talents" to attack Republicans. She's not funny, period.
