President Bill Clinton is piped aboard as he goes through the sideboys on the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV 62) at her homeport of Yokosuka, Japan, on Wednesday, April 17, 1996. The President took time out from his state visit to Japan to meet with the crew of the carrier and to thank them for their role in representing U.S. interests during their deployment off the coast of Taiwan. Here's more. CNN has its own GALLERY dedicated to Clinton on the USS Independence. It can be found, if you have the stomach for it,
Here. (Note: he is called "The President" herewithin because at the time, unfortunately, that is what he was.)
Crowd EAGERLY awaits seeing the President:

The President wearing (gasp!) a flight bomber jacket.

The ship decorated in full regalia for the coming photo-op.

Hillary dons a hat in "honor" of those aboard the ship.

The crowd can hardly contain its excitement.

The President and his wife discuss the pros and cons of her ruining her "do" by donning the hat.

I seem to remember some sailors booing Clinton. Officers had to tell them they would be reprimanded if it happened again.

Worth noting ( if no one else has noticed ) : When President Bush made his famous visit, the crew was on hand in
regular work uniforms .
You'll see, at a glance, when Clinton visited, the crew was turned out in dress whites , as if for a royal visit.
The only thing missing from the Clinton photos is Senator Byrd in his dress whites : You know : The Class A uniform with the pointy hood.

Everyone must have forgotten this one.
John Kennedy's private plane goes down off Martha's Vineyard. The Coast Guard and Navy spend four or five days tring to find the body. Then, once the body is found, Senator Kennedy (D, Mass) has John buried at sea off a Navy vessel. What does THIS photo op cost? And how in the h*ll does Kennedy get approval for this?
