Senator Robert "Ku Klux Klan" Byrd, a former recruiter for the Bed Sheet Bandits of West Virginia recently made some comments about President Bush's appearance on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Before we discuss his comments, Lets examine Senator Byrd and his "History."
Senator Byrd voted against the confirmation of Clarence Thomas (An African American) to the Supreme Court. Now, I can see Yall saying that Clarence Thomas is a Republican and a Conservative and Senator Byrd is neither, so naturally he would vote against him. I would surrender that point except for the fact that Senator Byrd also voted AGAINST the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall, A Very Liberal, Very Democrat African American Judge, when he was nominated to the Supreme Court.
During the year 2001 on a broadcast of Fox News Sunday, Senator Byrd twice used the "N" word. He NEVER publicly apologized for the use of that word, instead sending a written apology to the network.
Senator Byrd voted against removing from an office an elected official that was guilty of Perjury, Lying to a Congressional Investigating Committee and Obstruction of Justice in a Civil Rights Court Case. The Individual in question was disbarred in his home state and prohibited from practicing law before the Supreme Court. The Reason Senator Byrd refused to remove this gentleman from office? Because it was a Democrat President: President William Clinton.
During the 1940s Senator Byrd spent two "ELECTED" terms as a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan in West Virginia. Senator Byrd was one of the DEMOCRATS That tried to prevent the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill with a Filibuster. Senator Byrd was among the Democrats that voted AGAINST the 1964 Civil Rights act.
In a letter to Mississippi Senator Bilbo in 1947, Senator Byrd wrote "never submit to fight beneath the banner [the American flag] with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."
Senator Byrd is widely known as the "King of Pork." He brings home to West Virginia More Federal dollars than any other Senator in Washington. Senator Byrds voting record and actions in the US Senate would make Nathan Bedford Forest (The Founder of the KKK) jump for Joy.
On March 19th 2003, Senator Byrd said on the Senate Floor "Instead of reasoning with those with whom we disagree, we demand obedience or threaten recrimination. Instead of isolating Saddam Hussein, we seem to have isolated ourselves. We proclaim a new doctrine of preemption which is understood by few and feared by many. We say that the United States has the right to turn its firepower on any corner of the globe which might be suspect in the war on terrorism. We assert that right without the sanction of any international body. As a result, the world has become a much more dangerous place. We flaunt our superpower status with arrogance. We treat UN Security Council members like ingrates who offend our princely dignity by lifting their heads from the carpet. Valuable alliances are split. "
Are we to assume from these comments, That Senator Byrd feels the United States may only defend itself when the United Nations says we can?
Recently Senator Byrd made the following statement regarding President Bush's Speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln. ""I do not begrudge his salute to America's warriors aboard the carrier Lincoln, for they have performed bravely, ... but I do question the motives of a desk-bound president who assumes the garb of a warrior for the purposes of a speech,"
I don't remember Senator Byrd questioning the Motives of a Draft Dodger President at Normandy. It seems Senator Byrd only questions the Motives of Republican Presidents. Could it be his objection is Purely Political?

Would someone remind Senator "Dirty " Byrd about the cost of the 1200 person trip to Bejing with Clinton and the trip to Africa for 900? The tab was somewhere around 75 million.....................All Democrat donors

Why doesn't some investigative jounalist go back and look up the record of Byrd's KKK terrorist activities? How many Blacks were lynched? How many crosses burned? How many Black Americans beaten and intimidated?

As you already know by now, almost all journalists are leftists, so they will never take on a left-wing icon, no matter how vile he is.

I thought he was dead.
Oh wait, what I meant to say was I thought he looked dead, then again maybe he is dead. Did anyone tell him he was dead, maybe then he will fall over.
Still can't believe that he's not dead.

Remember visiting in WV. Time after time on road construction projects a sign would stand by the road announcing the Federal contribution followed by the State contribution. Repeatedly, the Federal contribution would be hundreds of millions of dollars and State contributon would be at the least ZERO or few thousand. Now these would be major road construction projects mind you. Never have I seen such an unequal distribution of taxpayer funds in Bobby Byrd's home state.

I agree. But the KKK has nothing to do with aircraft carriers, unless the Navy decides to hire their uniform stylist. All I'm saying is that if all people can say with regards to Byrd is, "Quiet, Klanboy," then it's not really that different when a liberal will degenerate to name-calling in an argument. It's pathetic, and it's happening to Byrd critics.

At least when President Bush left the ship all the ashtrays, robes, sliverware, towels, and the sailors' wallets were still on the ship.
The same cannot be said when clinton's entourage departed the U.S.S. Kennedy.
One more thing, Predident Bush did not have to dress secret service agents in Navy jackets and hide their faces while they were pretending to shake hands with him while being photographed like byrd's idol did.

It's not namecalling, IMO -- it's a fact. It's not like calling him a leftist nitwit or old fool or any other well-earned name. The FACT is that he was a member of an organization whose sole purpose was to terrorize and kill other Americans, and I believe that cannot be ignored or put in the "let bygones be bygones bin."
What he did is heinous and I believe that what he says and does now can and should held up to that prism.

If Byrd was a Republican do you think they would let bygones be bygones? The Black Congressional Caucus members would be foaming at the mouth. They would crucify him and anyone who dared to defend him on the basis of, "it's all in the past. He's a changed man." The Lefty media would be digging up every bit of dirt on him they could find. Byrd, like Clinton, is one of them so they turn a blind eye to anything he's done.

Byrd was giving one of his senate floor speaches and he was referring to a bill with WHERE AS statements in it. I don't remember which bill he referred to.... he said "Where as phrases are pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty....." and went on to make NO sense at all. He is 85 and the years are wearing on him.
One time he talked on the senate floor about his dog Billy. He said "When I look at the photo of my dog Billy, I just have to smile..." and that time he went on to make no sense at all, too.
I think it is called senile dementia....

EXACTLY! And that's a huge part of the reason Vacant Lott had to leave the Majority Leader position -- because his mere (but stupid) remarks would forever be used against him and the GOP for as long as he remained in power.

Sure, it's a fact, but it's completely irrelevant to the topic of Bush's carrier landing. Byrd is wrong to lash out, but not because he was in the KKK: he's wrong because he's wrong.
I don't know, I just don't think it's practical to keep dismissing Byrd as a Kleagle. Eventually you have to start challenging his political ideas and statements. It's fine to keep his KKK membership in mind, but unless Byrd went out and burned crosses on the front lawns of the sailors on that ship, it really isn't relevant.

In a pure political sense, you're absolutely correct. However, in the current political climate, nothing is off the table and I, for one, cannot forget what a vile little man he is -- especially when he pontificates and waves his little pocket paperback Constitution as if he's some sort of moral authority.
As far as I'm concerned, every time he makes moral pronouncements or tries to come off as someone deserving respect and reverence, I'm going to loudly remind all that he was an officer in a terrorist organization.
The left has forgiven him and wants that nasty fact of his past to be well-hidden, but I won't let them.
