McAuliffe in Spitting Match Over Bush-Clinton Draft Records
NewsMax.com/WABC Radio ^ | May 7, 2003 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 05/07/2003 7:30:15 AM PDT by Carl/NewsMax

Tuesday morning started off with a bang for Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe - when he attacked president Bush for serving in the Texas Air National Guard, then found himself on the defensive over the draft record of his friend and political ally Bill Clinton.

The fireworks started when McAuliffe told WABC Radio's Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby that Bush's Iraq war victory announcement from the deck of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln last week gave new legitimacy to questions about Bush's military service.

MCAULIFFE: He's got to stop doing photo ops. All he does is photo ops. You know what happened in April? There were 400,000 people who watched George Bush land live on that aircraft carrier. They wished they'd seen it on the evening news. But you know what? They lost their jobs in the month of April.

SLIWA: Wait a second. No, no. Let's go back to that issue. Are you suggesting that the president should not have been on that aircraft carrier, should not have been meeting the naval personnel that fought so valiantly and should not have been addressing the nation and the world from that aircraft carrier?

MCAULIFFE: I though it was a blatant photo op. He can meet the troops any time he wants. But to get off that plane and run around in his jump suit - I, politically, thought it was not smart for him because it opens up all those issues again of how he never fought in a war....

SLIWA: Where are the complaints coming from....

MCAULIFFE: .... how he was in the National Guard in Alabama and was MIA for a year.....

SLIWA: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a second, wait a second. He did National Guard service. Where was your guy, Bill Clinton - a draft dodger who went and protested against America in Moscow?

KUBY: John Kerry I think was a Navy combat veteran....

SLIWA: We're talking about Bill Clinton. Terry McAuliffe and Bill Clinton are gombarahcheeches. How do you answer that?

KUBY: Clinton isn't running.

MCAULIFFE: First of all, George Bush ran against Al Gore who did, gentlemen, serve in Vietnam, was over in Vietnam. You know, at some point you've got to move on from Bill Clinton. In 2004, we will not have Bill Clinton on the ballot. We won't have Al Gore. We'll have someone new on the ballot. George Bush will be on the ballot. He opened it up, walking around with his flight suit. He was MIA in Alabama. His father [unintelligible] out of trouble.

SLIWA: You are so vile. You are so vile.

KUBY: Boys, boys. We have to move on. Terry McAuliffe, thank you so much for being with us.

MCAULIFFE: Let's do this every day.

KUBY: We'd really like you to come back and I hope you have a better day in New York for the rest of the day than you did here.

MCAULIFFE: People really got their coffee going now.

KUBY: Okay. It's 7:33, with the hillbillies and thugs in Arkansas who hijacked the New York State Democratic Party. [End of Excerpt.]

Would you hear the same complaints if this had been a Clinton photo-op? McAuliffe is really pissed (as is Byrd, et al.) because this was a Clinton missed photo-op.

The thing that gets me is the Democrats contention that Bush had no business being on the carrier. Did I miss something? He is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces after all.

You know it!! I meant to point out the hypocracy in just that statement alone. Never mind their entire way of political doo-doo.

I can't stand when are side allows them to peddle the idea that Al Gore went to Vietnam. Yeah, he was there, but he was a journalist, who did a 7 month tour, whose father got him his own personal bodyguard, who lied and said he was walking in elephant grass to pretend he was a rontline guy and on and on.

God, I wouldn't mind if Mcaulliffe choked on food somewhere and he was surrounded by Democrat Palm Beach voters. If they can't figure out the butterfly ballot, can they be relied upon to do the Heimlick Maneuver, I think not!

Terry Mc is a fella that makes a person think un-Christian thoughts.

The thing that gets me is the Democrats contention that Bush had no business being on the carrier. Did I miss something? He is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces after all.

There were a lot of complaints from conservatives after the Oklahoma City bombing, accusing him of grandstanding by showing up in Oklahoma City.

The Democrats rejoined that he was the President and so entitled to be there.

That photo-op, more than any other single event, reinvigorated his presidency when it was on the ropes.

A joke you might like

A squad of Marines drove up the highway between Basra and Baghdad. They came upon an Iraqi soldier badly injured and unconscious nearby on the opposite side of the road was an American soldier in a similar state, but he was alert.

As first aid was given to both soldiers, they asked what had happened. The Marine responded "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway. Coming south was a heavily armed Iraqi soldier".

"What happened then?" the corpsman asked. "I told him Saddam Hussein was a miserable piece of shit, and then the Iraqi told me that Tom Daschle, Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton were miserable pieces of shit." "We were shaking hands when the truck hit us."

Thank you... she was a Master Sergeant, and I lost her this March.

She was quite a woman in her day- smart, pretty, and funny... and tough as an old shoe when that was required.

Each new generation likes to think they are the sharpest, the coolest, the most sophisticated- but those traits are found in older generations, too. I'm really not in the mood right now, but sometime I might write a synopsis of her life, which was quite interesting- she was a trend-setter.

The more the Democrat party pushes conspiracy theories like the Bush AWOL story, the more ridiculous and untrustworthy they appear. As if the "they stole the election" tirade doesn't embarass them enough. The Left seems more and more fanatical each day- they are out of touch with reality. Bush served in the Texas Air National Guard. He was never AWOL (although he did move from one base to another within Texas). Bush won the election in 2000. These are facts and the American people greet each attempt to revise history with groans. It just makes me chuckle that the Left is so busy hyperventillating over these laughable conspiracy theories, that they don't have enough time to act on behalf of the American people by doing things like proposing a budget. A theme we should hit the Left on is that they have No Plan for America. They are directionless. Polls consistently tell us that American people trust the President over the Democrats by roughly +20 pts on who has a plan for addressing America's problems.
