The Story of a Frozen Byrd ... err, Bird, covered in Excretment
My brother | May 7, 2003 | Edited and enhanced by Jeff Head

There was once a byrd, err, bird, who had waited far too long to fly south for the winter. Finally, he decided he must be on his way or he would die, so off he flew.

As he made his way down out of the cold north and was crossing Montana, a cold wind began to blow and then a early winter storm raged. The byrd, errr, bird, got colder and colder and soon fell to the earth, expecting to soon pass from this existance.

He had been on the ground no more than two minutes when a passing buffalo defecated on him and covered him over with a fresh paddy. At first the bird thought to himself, "Oh, man, what more could possibly happen to me?"

Then, after a few minutes, the byrd, err, bird, found that the warmth of the excretment was thawing him out. After a little while he was able to move and began making his way upwards, out of the fresh pile and towards a lightening sky.

In fact, when his beak poked through the top of the excretement he was so happy he began to chirp and squak and even to sing.

Unknown to the bird, less than 100 yards away there was a hungry fox. When the fox heard the bird singing, he immediately ran over to the fresh buffalo paddy, dug the byrd, err, bird, out and ate him.

The moral to the story?

  1. Don't procrastinate things you really should do. Bad things are apt to happen when you do.
  2. Not everyone who covers you in crap is your enemy.
  3. Not everyone who digs you out of a pile of crap is your friend.
  4. And finally, if you are a Byrd, err, bird, over neck deep in crap ... dont chirp or sing about it.

Lastly, if you're warm and happy in a pile of crap; keep your mouth shut.

Great advice that only makes sense to those who've been there. Interesting times, no?

Sort of the inverse of not chirping about it if you're neck deep in the stuff.
