The Hummer helped win the war in Iraq, but a civilian version may not be such a winner in your driveway.

For the first time, a closely watched quality survey by J.D. Power & Associates revealed some of the dogs of the auto industry as well as its stars. The Hummer had the worst quality of any brand. Owners who were involved in the survey criticized the $50,000 H2 for everything from poor mileage to lack of power.

If I can be goofy, I didn't thnk that the people who were purchasing the H2 were the most concerned people about gas milage. Can we say liberal bias alert in the article?

The H2 has nothing whatsoever to do with the military vehicle. It is basically a Suburban with a different body style. Only idiots buy them.

The H1 is the real deal.

This wouldn't have happened in a Hummer.

I gotta 1997 Nissan Maxima. The worst problem: a tiny leak in a master cylinder. I chose to have it replaced although the mechanic said I could have safely driven for many more miles. Oh, also an alternator problem that was the subject of a recall and cost me $0.00.

Other than that, oil, fluids, wipers, and tires.

IMHO, that is quality.

My next car will be a Nissan. Don't even ask about my experience with Honda.

H2 is beefed up Yukon or Escalade, bit more clutsy, bit more gassy, vision is limited (smaller windows) but undecarriage seems more beefy. If you drive through the woods, plow the fields, play soldiers or deliver meals to lumberjacks - way to go.

I luv Escalade and recommend it (same mnoney). Drives and feels almost like a sports car, very nice handling, while giving all the needs for cargo, comfortable ride and SAFETY. Saved my wifes' life when she "met" utility pole at 40 mph. Walked away with only bruises from the safety belt, OnStar called ambulance and asked if she is OK. She is and we got another one, different color.

You tree hugging, vegie eating, welfare commie pinkos can bitch and drive your Yugos and KIAs, I will stick with good old and new Amerikansky cars. Our lives depend on them.

Ford is 136 problems per 100, Mercury is 113 problems per 100.

Ford and Mercury vehicles are pretty much the same..Sable/Taurus, Explorer/Mountaineer, etc.

What I think the difference is...Mercury dealership service is reportedly much better than Ford dealership service. So much so that I've heard of people taking their Ford cars to the Mercury dealer for service.

People might be less inclined to report a problem on this survey if the dealership took care of it without a hassle.

What you don't see in that photo is Hillary Clinton leaning against the left front fender.

Lexus, Toyota Motor Corp.'s upscale division and perennial quality winner, performed best, with just 76 problems per 100.

Maybe not. I was always under the impression that manufacturers with multiple lines like this prioritized them differently and used the "bigger" name for the newer vehicles. Especially for cars. A 2003 Sable, for example, may be built with the same parts as a 2002 Taurus.

Which means that Mercury might have better numbers than Ford simply because they are using parts that have already been "road-tested" for a full model year.

YESSSS!!! And thanks. The GM version is not only ugly and loaded with problems, it's not even a good knockoff.

H1 Forever!
