Well, I must admit that GT has the credentials to recognize arrogant ant self-righteous as this strip clearly shows. Of course, by ranting in a foreign language I can't help but think he is a chicken. Like those people who want to complain about something you've done, but don't say it to your face; instead they say it under their breath as they are turning away.
If he wants self-determination for the French, then why doesn't he recognize the U.S.'s right to self-determination without the French or the UN?

Thanks for clarification, but I knew you weren't talking to me; otherwise you would've said "Go back to Brooklyn!"

Trudeau has been an obsessed, hateful little man since the 2000 election.
Ever since then he has tried to use his strip to get even somehow. It's not even funny anymore. It's become one spiteful slur after another.
He needs to "get over it" Because, at this rate I see no reason for anyone to bother with Mr. Trudeau or his stupid comic strip.
Not him, not the newspapers and not the readers. It's just become pointless for everyone involved.

I didn't understand the second half of the strip; I'm afraid French is Greek to me.

I have to agree with Trudeau here. It's one thing to deplore the actions of the current government of France but some of this anti-French sentiment is another thing all together.

Gary Trudeau: the only cartoonist in history to successfully base a career on not saying anything funny; ever.

ZOT!!!!
I knew there was more to me not liking Doomsberry.
It's wasn't just that he hates everything reasonable.
HE'S FRENCH!! That explains a lot.
Maybe those two go together?

Imagine that, Gary Trudeau, or anybody else French, calling Americans arrogant.
Reminds me of an e-mail.
To: Pharmboy
The basic argument of the piece is that the French on 9/11 said, "We are all Americans now," but that Americans were so arrogant that they would never think that way about another country, even if the Eiffel Tower were bombed.
That's false.
At least as to me, on 9/11 I immediately felt, "So this is what the Israelis have been going through." I'm not jewish, but I said to my best friend (who is Jewish) on 9/12 or 9/13, "We are all jews now" and I apologized for the presumptuousness of saying it, but that is how I felt. We were targeted for mostly the same reason that jews are targeted.
So the assertion of the Trudeau's column is FALSE.
To: texasbluebell
Your speculation is wrong.
At Yale, Gary T. was a much bigger man on campus than George Bush. Trudeau wrote the same column under another name while he was an undergraduate for the Yale Daily News. Everyone read it. Then Trudeau hung around Yale for years (as a grad student) even while he was syndicated and becoming very famous in Watergate.
Jealousy from college is not Trudeau's motivation.

I don't disagree with your facts, but--with all due respect--perhaps your conclusion is incorrect. I say this because the SOB has everything most would want at the present time but he is obviously an unhappy, self-loathing, Bush-hating POS.
But then again, you could be right.

you forgot "not skilled as a draftsman"
he is not in the same league as Bill Waterson or Frank Cho, not by worlds. His artwork is barely more developed than that of Gary Larson.
And Larson managed to be both intelligently witty and biting, now and then.
What can Trudeau do, except insult America?
Nothing.
And he caqnnot even do that one little thing well.

"Mark - With you people, loyalty is a one-way street. After 911, French headlines read, "We are All Americans today!" If terrorists had destroyed the Eiffel tower, would you have cried, "We are all French today!"?"
Us people? Sure we had oceans wide support after 9-11 but it turned out to be an inch deep. One of the differences between the French and Americans is that all they did after the attack was mouth words of sympathy. If France had been attacked on 911, they wouldn't have been against the war on terror and the US would've helped France go after the terrorists (France would've followed from a safe distance of course).
To: demosthenes the elder
You're absolutely correct, Demosthenes--Waterson and Larson were/are geniuses; their wit and pithy insights and truisms are classic. I honestly can't figure out what anybody could possibly admire about Trudeau. Today's column was the equivalent of saying "your mother wears combat boots"--who's the provincial one?
